Twitter is alive with negative Manly stories , and almost it’s as if the Finals don’t exist.

Sad, the only social media I look at is ST and there’s enough doom and gloom here for me, I don’t need anymore, hopefully it’ll quiten down after the footy this weekend, as I’m sure it‘ll be more interesting, but then again too many people love the BS.

This week will be a telling one re our beloved club's direction in the near future. Just for shiits & giggles I asked myself what changes would I make if I could (without any real knowledge of inside dealings etc).

Assuming we're stuck with Penn, and Des walks:

Coaches:
Of the names thrown up, Madge & Siebold don't particularly scream success. Hales & Flanagan have some merit to varying degrees and Slater would never come. I would put
Flanagan Assistant Coach (Defence structures and wrestle etc)
Walker Bros Assistant Coach (Attack)
Hales Head Coach (General player management etc)
Blend of modern and old-school approaches

Players:
Release DCE. Assuming his 2yr extension is around the 800k mark, find a club in need of an experienced half. If they are happy to give a 3yr×$600k deal for Cpt of Qld, they win, and we foot the remaining 600k for 2023, and 200k for both '24 & '25. Why pay deadweight? If this truly is a clean out, better to do it properly and immediately.

With the extra funds (and assuming there aren't elite 7s and 9s currently available ), I would bring back Cust. He has a great working relationship with Guac, and I would have Humphreys as his understudy/ back-up.

We would also need a little more money to bolster our pack. Not sure where from but grant the release of Bullemor (if he asks), and use remain funds for the last few spots in the 30 to buy:

Klemmar, and

1× hard arse English backrower (Whitehead/Young/Bateman type)

Captaincy:
Jake and Tom co-Captains. Pretty simple one.

Team Selections:
I would go with a young spine that will struggle for 2023 but in time could develop into a formidable group. This would be my team:

Any YART without DCE I can't take seriously. He recently signed an extension so he is going no where. Interviewed by Wierdler (with Turbo front and centre) and said he still had the players support and a lot to offer as captain. Whether you agree with this or not he will start 2023 as half and captain.

It’s pretty depressing really , it seems to have been this way for a decade now.

Yeah this goes back to the Brett Stewart days and beyond , why the hell cant we get the board / club running right ?? Is it to many egos or what??? the whole club needs a massive overhaul and reset, but i wont hold me breath.

This could all be a bit of a beat up. Last time I checked most dressing room doors weren't transparent.

Unless Des hung a sign on the outside saying No Penns its hard to draw a conclusion that he locked a specific person out of the sheds and didnt just lock the door to stop media and the like rubbing salt in the wounds.

Ha , @Dan and I did this about 10-12 years ago , we created a rumour about having signed a really big player who was about to play in a GF and was going to announce his defection to Manly the week after the game.

AND it worked , a story appeared in the Daily Telegraph which caused much embarrassment to the author when it was discovered to be absolute bull**** !!

They just need a snippet / rumour to run with something these days.

To be honest ( old age ) I’ve forgotten.

No it wasn’t generic , we used the players name.

We set it up as a discussion thread on here “ huge signing news but hush hush keep it just to Silvertails “

And I made up some bull**** inside story about knowing a close member of the family and them confiding in me that player XXXX was going to announce the big news after the GF. If they won , a week later , if they lost a few days later.

The funniest thing was it was Grand Final week and this story made to the main story in the telegraph.

It was hilarious and as soon as the story came out we updated to say it was just a dare !!

I agree he’ll start , but it’s no certainty he’ll have the C beside his name.

He may well , but you can bet with all the pressure on there’ll be a secret ballot within the playing group.

Then we will really know the true story, it’s all been absolute bull**** OR it was true from the start.

Be patient my feathered friend. Let’s see what happens later in the week. A part from more fox hyperbole from digging up anything they can find I suspect not would have changed come this time next week. Btw the awards night photos for yesterday look pretty harmonious to me.
