Manly Attacking Formula ?

Any player that gets tackled without passing the ball on the 4th tackle should be sacked immediately.
Any player that thinks it's clever to pass the ball back inside to a player running straight into the waiting arms of 3 defenders should be sacked immediately. Predictable insanity.
All Manly training sessions should involve the team watching video of MENZIES and LYONS, running, passing and fooling the defence.
Remember IAN MARTIN and JOHNNY GIBBS tearing up the confused defence in 1976.
Can the talent scouts please find some players like -

We can only dream.
That was some side!!!

Usually agree but brooks took em on way more and we were better for it .... problem was, not off second phase or defence compromised so closed him down ....but in general 200% fair call
If they had had D$E and we had Fogarty the scores would likely been in our favour even with the inequality in the forward packs

Our much maligned attacking formula especially in the red zone surely has to be attributed to the coaching staff.
First grade players are paid to carry out said plans in the main, especially the halves.
Surely DCE & Brooks try to carry out those plans....so whose to blame?
They've both played 600 games combined. You'd think by now they might figure out where the opposition defensive weakness might be. They both have been clueless the last 3 games. Even the Storm win, we should've scored more points. We had ample possession against the Dogs, Rorters and Raiders and they did nothing with it. Created zilch. 4 tries in 3 games having more than 50% possession is pathetic for a team with the backline names we have.

I agree, although I don't necessarily think offloads are the key; rather, moving forwards in numbers and having a 9 that can provide a threat and/or put forwards into space around the ruck, is integral to sucking defenders into the middle. The other issue is our middles are not that effective at generating ruck speed in the opposition red zone. A guy like Spencer Leniu who can skittle defenders, find his front, get up and play the ball quickly, is required. Sending a plodder like Lodge up the middle at a snail's pace to be smashed, before rising slowly, is not going to cut it.but

Then, you've got to have backrowers who run good lines to create space outside; that's been a big reason for our poor attack since Olakau'atu's been out. There's very little happening on the right edge atm. The only threat is Brooks using someone on the left.
Pretty much agree, though offloads and 2nd phase are a must against your structured defensive sides like Melbourne, Penrith and Dogs....fact is we are so far off this level, the more fundamental areas starting at dummy half, needs to be improved before thinking about the riskier stuff, as currently look confused playing standards footy, with such a lack of elementary support play for starters
If they had had D$E and we had Fogarty the scores would likely been in our favour even with the inequality in the forward packs
way closer but doubt we win unfortunately mate ... reason I say this and respectfully, every time we scored they scored within a few minutes almost like they had extra gears if needed, tha we didn't.... but DCE in recent times especially, has really dropped his head and form which is sad to see as a Manly fan...damn Fogs kicking game compared to ours was daylight and just May finish sets better and land a few on tackle 6 that take advantage of Saabs 10 foot reach

I totally agree with your choice of Koula, Garrick, Bullemore, Simpkin.
I think there are a few others giving 101% that go unnoticed, I'd like to hear other people's choice of players.

I feel that DCE has already left the Club. He's missing a lot of crucial tackles.
DCE is leaving of his own volition, he's not being coerced or manipulated.

Whereas, in 1989 it all came apart, when Manly CEO Doug Daley told Vautin - at a time when he was the incumbent vice-captain of the Kangaroos - that instead of renewing his contract at $95,000 a year, the best they could do was $50,000. It was the sort of offer a CEO makes when he wants quit of a player without sacking him outright, and so it transpired in Daley's office one leaden afternoon when the offer was made:

Vautin: "You're kidding! I can't play for that!"

Daley: "Are you saying you won't play any more?"

Vautin: "Yes."

Vautin drove home, told wife Kim that "it's all over", and cried his eyes out for the only time in his entire adulthood.

Disgraceful and disgusting treatment of Vautin and Fulton, forcing them to play for another Club.
To add insult to injury they went to the Roarters.

Have we heard an acceptable reason from DCE as to why he is leaving Manly?

Not an honest reason ..... but it is about money he just won't admit it or say it publicly.

Your last sentence was what I was inferring

Agree re Koula, Garrick, Bully & Simpkin….i’d add Talau & TKO to the list!

Manly did not get rid of Fulton, Roosters made him such an offer that he couldn't refuse, Arno said he'd be mad not to take it.
As for Vautin, the situation with him and Doug Daley was very toxic, Vautin at the time thought he was bigger than the club, however any animosity he had against Manly was quickly tempered, so probably on reflection he thought he was also at fault in the friction.

Unfortunately, today’s version of Rugby League bears little resemblance to the game those great players played. Today’s version is a series of formulaic, percentage based patterns that all teams use to greater or lesser effect, depending upon their ability to manage/control ruck speed through what is laughably now called defense ie hold, wrestle and peel away. In short, the greater your ability to strangle the life out of a game, the more successful you will be.
+1. In addition this is compounded with six agains and sin bins....very circumstantial in terms of what price a team pays for a player's indiscretion.

The whole team is too sideways, including the halves. If the halves don’t engage the line, you need a real threat from hooker and/or a ball playing 14, like we used to have (Dylan Walker). Just throwing it wide and expecting TT to do the rest was all well and good in 2021, but hasn’t worked for a couple of years now. It also doesn’t help that the halfback hasn’t changed his style in 15 years, and just plays the way he is comfortable with regardless of what the team needs.
