Well that confirms Des as coach of the year.

I only say optimistic because I've seen a LOT of deserving coaches in many different sports over the years get passed over for a Coach of the Year award in favour of someone far less deserving.

Prime example (not rugby league)....the 2013-14 NBL season. The Illawarra Hawks finished with a 13-15 record, only just making the playoffs in 4th spot. Their record that year was actually exactly the same (13-15) as in 2012-13. The Adelaide 36ers had finished dead last in both 2011-12 and 2012-13 (with an 8-10 record each time). In 2013-14, Joey Wright took over as coach and they went on to an 18-10 record and made the Grand Final series (they lost 2-1 to Perth). Illawarra didn't improve, actually had a losing record and they dropped from 3rd to 4th on the ladder. Adelaide went from last (8th) to second (and like Manly this year, with largely the same squad as the previous year) and came within one half (20 minutes) of going from bottom to top in one season. Gordie McLeod of the Hawks won the Coach of the Year award.

Des should win the award this year, but its not a fait accompli. Remember, this is the NRL we're talking about here.

We beat Souths Melbourne away and Canberra twice plus were dudded twice v souths
Parra did not beat a top four side

That in itself should ensure Des gets the gong as best coach.
Des wouldn't be concerned about personal accolades, would probably just embarrass him, for him it really is all about the players . 3 things in life are certain - death, taxes and No. 3 is that Des will already be plotting how to take Manly to the next level in 2020.
Edit -4 things - the Eels failures will always continue to provide amusement to Manly fans

You really do have to LOL @ Parra.

After the way their fans carried on over their win over Brisbane.....for them to go out with barely a whimper in not firing a shot at Melbourne is a definite LOL.

We may have lost this weekend too which also ended our season, but even with the way we lost we still did it with all guns (available) blazing and pushed Souffs right to the end.
