What's funny is when they lose their 12 points, in 2-3 weeks time, they could be still in front of Manly.
Parra's punishment stipulated that they can't earn points until they are under the Cap and their Board resigns. @

Their Board is still clinging on for some strange reason. They must be as crazy as Fiz

  • Points sanction will still apply to the Eels if they get under the cap and the board members that got the supreme court injunction remain
  • Not sure if players and agents are involved
  • More sanctions could be handed down if they find more

And let's not forget it's cracker night for those of who remember a less regulated world. 1986 was the Last. Of course something way less important happened all those years ago as well. So the ol' town of Paralytic will be like dodge city again!!!
I don't get into it but, they still have cracker night here in the NT. It's only legal to use them for 1 night but, it goes on & on for months after.

NRL declared them as playing for points a few weeks back, as they got under the cap and the 5 board members (incl. Anderson) stepped down from active duties. They were still allowed to perform some basic activities to keep the club running. At this stage it's still just the 12, but if anything more has come to light it could be more points.

Parramatta Eels to be hit with $1.3 million hangover from salary cap rorts

EXCLUSIVE

Parramatta will have to carry more than $1.3 million worth of shonky promised payments in their salary cap during the next three years as the fallout from their systematic cheating threatens future premiership campaigns.

The biggest beneficiary of the payments in future years was to be Kieran Foran. Photo: Benjamin Tranter

The Eels have promised 10 of their biggest names undisclosed payments for next season totalling $688,600, which the NRL has uncovered as part of a comprehensive forensic audit of the club. Further secret payments have been set aside for 2018 totalling $448,600, while $175,000 of off-the-book money was set aside for 2019.

The NRL will insist the clandestine deals, totalling $1,312,200, be added to the embattled club's salary cap over the next three years. The development will cruel Parramatta's ability to retain and recruit talent and ensure the hangover from their salary cap rorts continues for a long while yet.

Fairfax Media has obtained a copy of the breach notice the governing body sent to the blue and golds, which details the allegations against the club and the five current officials who are allegedly complicit in the cheating. Unless Parramatta and the so-called "gang of five" officials can convince the governing body that they are manifestly excessive, the provisional sanctions – which include the stripping of 12 competition points and a $1 million fine – will stand.

The NRL salary cap will rise to $7.1 million next season, but Eels coach Brad Arthur will only have $6,411,400 at his disposal as the club continues to pay for the sins of its administration.

The biggest beneficiary of the payments in future years was to be Kieran Foran. The troubled Parramatta captain, who has been ruled out for the rest of the season with injury, was scheduled to receive $450,000, spread over the next three years. His former Manly teammate, Anthony Watmough, was to receive $225,000 outside the salary cap next year and a further $175,000 in 2018.

Parramatta is fortunate the former NSW and Australian forward's retirement due to a career-ending knee injury freed up some space, with the majority of his long-term deal covered by insurance and not counting against the cap. However, the Eels will have to wear the $400,000 the club was attempting to pay him over the next two seasons.

Other player payments that will be loaded into future cap payments include: Beau Scott ($40,000 over two years), Semi Radradra ($157,200 over two seasons), Kenny Edwards ($20,000 in 2017), Manu Ma'u ($40,000 in 2017), Michael Jennings ($75,000 over three years), Peni Terepo ($10,000 in 2017), Tepai Moeroa ($20,000 in 2017) and Tim Mannah ($100,000 in 2017).

There is no suggestion that any of the aforementioned players were aware that funds slated for them were in contravention of NRL rules. The NRL stated in the breach notice served to the club that the future undisclosed remuneration commitments "will be counted in the Salary Cap Calculations" for the ensuing seasons.

The club responded to the breach notice by Friday's deadline and is likely to argue that the penalty is manifestly unfair. However, Parramatta's antagonistic approach to the NRL during the investigation is likely to work against them.

Breaking it down: The undisclosed figures.

Powerbrokers at Rugby League Central, in possession of damning evidence of illegal payments, gave their Eels counterparts at least half a dozen opportunities to come clean. However, Parramatta administrators continually denied knowledge of impropriety and even threatened a public relations war against the NRL over their probe.

In what could be a further hit to Parramatta's ability to retain and attract players, Will Hopoate's contractual dispute remains before the courts. Should the Canterbury recruit win his case and the NRL deems any payout must count against the salary cap, the blue and golds will only be able to spend a fraction of the money on player payments of their rivals.

The developments threaten the chances of the club retaining Corey Norman, although the drug possession charges laid against the off-contract playmaker are likely to lower his market value. It also lessens the prospect of the club having the funds required to lure code-hopper Jarryd Hayne back to western Sydney.

Interesting reading at the bottom of the Tele article about Foran not seeing eye to eye with the Dalai regarding his management of his rehab. Then you read the rumour up top that says a star player has fallen out with his coach and wants an immediate release.

I wonder (if true) who that could be? :giggle:

Coup to overthrow Parramatta Eels' board is officially launched

A coup to overthrow Parramatta's dysfunctional board has officially been launched.

After months of planning, local businessman Andrew Eagleston has assembled a team of seven professionals to take over the running of the embattled club. The alternate leadership group, which comprises Eagleston and lawyer Brendon Noney, has the backing of heavy hitters, including former Macquarie Bank executive Bill Moss.

The so-called "Gang of Five": Parramatta officials Daniel Anderson, Steve Sharp, Tom Issa, John Boulous and Peter Serrao.

"For the sake of the members, fans, players and coaching staff it is time to bring the current dysfunctional board's reign to an end," Moss said in a statement provided to Fairfax Media.

"If you don't perform well on the field you are dropped from the side. The same should apply to the back office and the board.

"I am happy to offer any assistance to Andrew, Brendon and the team as required to ensure this great club has a successful future."

Rather than waiting for the NRL to roll the so-called "gang of five", the new ticket is proposing to take control of the Parramatta Leagues Club, which will also allow them to take charge of football matters.

Having assembled an alternate leadership structure, the next step is to gain the 101 signatures required to force an extraordinary general meeting to overthrow the current regime. While there are other groups also looking to force change, Eagleston will nominate those intended to take the spots of current directors for the sake of transparency.

The difficulty in forming a candidate list has been to find those who have the necessary business acumen, have no factional ties and still qualify by being leagues club members for the requisite three years. Eagleston, who will reveal the full ticket this week, believes he has all bases covered.

"This EGM will be the most important in the club's history," Eagleston said.

"We need a fresh start and a complete clean out of the board. We need proper leadership and we're looking to instil core values into the organisation. And we need to do that immediately."

The group has drafted a set of resolutions, obtained by Fairfax Media, that will be put to long-suffering members. Those wanting to add their signature to the petition list have been asked to email [email protected].

"Pursuant to clause 79 of the Constitution, Mr Stephen Sharp be removed as the Director of the Company with immediate effect," the draft resolutions state, in part.

"If by the date of the meeting Mr Stephen Sharp has resigned from or otherwise vacated the office of Director of the Company and that vacancy has been filled by a member nominated by the Board of Directors of the Company (Stephen Sharp Nominee), pursuant to clause 79 of the Constitution the Stephen Sharp Nominee be removed as Director of the Company with immediate effect."

Legendary Parramatta pivot Brett Kenny has thrown his support behind the alternate leadership structure.

"We need professional people to move this club forward," Kenny said in a statement.

"I've spoken to Andrew Eagleston in detail and fully support his team of professional people to make the changes required to the club.

"The changes need to happen sooner rather than later."

The Eels are in complete disarray and are effectively functioning without a chief executive, chairman and a football manager while the gang of five officials await a final verdict from the NRL. The club is also being investigated by at least three statutory bodies, including the NSW Fraud Squad, the Australian Tax Office and Liquor, Gaming and Racing. Any officials charged with fraud face the prospect of up to 10 years imprisonment.

"What the members need to understand is that if this situation is not fixed now, and if Sharp and his board continue to fight on and remain in their position as PLC directors, the situation could go on for between nine and 12 months," Eagleston said.

"We don't want this to continue to affect the playing group.

"If we can't effect this change it will be another season of drama and we could lose key players from our roster."

A separate call for an EGM was set to be launched on the Parramatta supporters forum 1eyedeel.com on Saturday night.
Under their proposal, all PLC directors would be removed, except for Geoff Gerard, who would immediately form a committee to appoint the next board on merit.

According to the website, Gerard has agreed that, should he succeed, he will form a committee that includes the leagues club chief executive, and an external auditing firm will call for candidates. Gerard has agreed to voluntarily step aside altogether once a new board has been selected.
