Line up for Sharks trial Feb 17

You can't really take too much out of yesterday's trial given the rotation of so many players and the fact that so many fg regulars didn't field. So you should take any headlines produced by journos with a grain of salt. In reality a single word makes the world of difference :
Moylan (Cecchin) shines as Sharks bite Sea Eagles

My thoughts,

1. Thank god the footy is back!
2. AFB - looks like our starting prop, great game.
3. Toafofoa Sipley - Some nice runs, exciting prospect.
4. Tom Wright - got a 1 v 1 steal early on and looked like a deer in the headlights (I think he didn't expect it) - needs more ball.
5. Cade Cust - busy and looks promising, great kick for Parker to score out wide.
6. Luke Metcalf - not enough game time but talent is evident.
7. Jackson Hastings - was busy for mine and some great 1 on 1 tackles.
8. Kelepi Tanginoa - Is he a lock? Good hustle and some damaging runs. Can he play prop?
9. Taniela Paseka - Lumbering giant, could be promising.
10. Manase Fainu - class player, need to hang on to this one.
11. Jack Gosiewski - great defence, great hustle - where do we play him?
12. Brad Parker - solid performance, not sold on his future just yet.
13. Brian Kelly - good hustle but D still a little off.
14. Frank Winterstein - solid
15. Shaun Lane - had some great touches but he needs consistency to be a regular 1st grader.
16. Lloyd Perrett - handful with the ball and coming off the preceding trial, great effort.

The rest - nothing to see, move along 😉

Hopefully Darcy isn't out too long.
Very good summary Anthony . Parker scored our opening two tries and in my eyes he was a handful . Good height for contesting the ball up in the air , good size bringing the ball back and good long range speed as well .

There was 11 regular 1st graders that did not play last night , Turbo , Jorge , Dylan , Uate, ( Croker ) , Dce , Jake , Api, Marty , Siro , Thomo , barring any injuries against the Sombreros , we are looking solid with alot of those young fellas from last night that will step up when required .

Sorry Bozo but no way would I have Parker and Winterstein in the centre. Winterstein is pedestrian and no way he would get near a flighty opposing centre with a bit of room. And Parker is solid, competent but there is no magic there. Kelly has to be first pick. Maybe Parker as the other centre as there doesnt seem much else on offer at present. Tom Wright will get better but needs a little time in the Reggies or on the wing to get used to the heavier work load. I can see Fainu as our utility instead of Brown. Jade Anderson, like T. Wright will get their chance this year, but not until about half way I suspect. If Carney comes, he will easily slip into 5/8. Otherwise Croker. Hastings is a good runner but offers little opportunities for his outside backs as 5/8. The centres almost fell asleep waiting for good ball.

I am still not sold on Kelly . His small frame was driven back like a ragged doll by the defence each time he ran the ball out and under the high ball he seems too short to compete . I was at the game and that was my impression .
Frank is a big strong mobile second rower with good speed and there is not much difference between second row and centre IMO . As for Parker he scored our opening two tries one from a giant leap taking a high kick and the other from support play and he will be scoring plenty more IMO .

In regards to Hastings whilst he did not star.they seemed to be utilizing the halves slightly differently in this game, both of them seemed to be parked on one side and stayed there organizing that side,at NRL level the 5/8 is more a middle third manager and Tommy and DCE adlib down the edges more...

Thought it was a decent hit out given who was selected for both teams. Interesting was we dominated early when they had there best players on. Best for mine were AFB, Sipley, Tanginoa and Gosiewski. Whcih suggests why we dominated early as our middle players were our best making plenty of metres. Our Halves were ok, did some good things but took some wrong options. Cust was his 20s self, great kick for Parker's first then failing to find touch from a penalty. Parker as noted by others is a conundrum, Great size and can leap but was found out defensively when he needed to change direction. think he missed Katoa twice in the same movement for a try. Neither Kelly or T Wright saw much good ball, good one on one strip by Wright to dispossess Moyaln but still needs time. Fainu was strong.

I thought Hastings did a good job of directing traffic. We looked a lot more organised when he was on the field.
I thought Hasting did a reasonable job as well but hey, we all see things differently on here . I don't think any one said he played poorly .

This will be the story of our year. You can be damn sure Greenturd will have the refs blowing us out of any games that matter. We won't be allowed anywhere near finals after all this salary cap farce. Especially when that turd comes up with nothing to hang us for.
Unfortunately agree mate - but I still have hope if our other half???....does his job.

Just watched the game in replay. Agree that AFB was outstanding. And Tanginoa has to be close to NRL footy. I actually thought Tom Wright looked pretty good, definitely not out of place, but the one who really caught my eye was Fainu. For a kid who's only recently been converted from a half to a hooker, he was great. I was a little worried about his lack of size but it never seemed to be an issue. Metcalfe looked sharp when he came on, too.
At times we looked like a rabble out there (the flow of penalties didn't help, and we'll need to get our discipline in check sooner rather than later) but there are some decent prospects coming through.

If the squad is what it is , maybe Api to 6 with the chosen one and Fainu to 9 . Dont know how we can leave him out . There has been no talk of this , but i wonder if it has crossed coach Barretts mind .

No. Fainu at 6 and Api at 9. Need someone who passes well to the backline
