Line up for Sharks trial Feb 17

considering we were missing 10 or 11 i was surprised at the decent quality of the trial in the first half. Second half was poor, back to normal.

Some points i took out of it:
AFB played the first 40 and killed them. Very good signs.
Tanginoa also played the first 40 and looked good.
Parker went well, got involved but defence with him and Kelly was a bit loose at times.
Kelly and Tom Wright didn't see much ball at all in attack hard to judge. Both had a few runs in the middle to look for more action. Kelly and Parker to start if Walker doesn't make it.
Hastings was doing a lot of organising in attack and defence.
Fainu looked good, no Api in defence but much better passing. Surely he can take Browns spot.
Gojetski looked willing.
Perrett looked solid but tired. Apparently already played 40 minutes in the previous trial. fresh he would be in front of Sipley.
Paseka starts at Blacktown but will play first grade this year.
Winterstein looked the same, lack of involvement but good when he did get some ball.
Lane played 10 good minutes then vanished, assume he also played earlier.
Joey Lussick was poor.
Jade Anderson came on and lookedgood for 5 minutes, then some other random came on at fullback and it all turned to poo.

Brian Kelly, Addin Fonua-Blake, Darcy Lussick, Lewis Brown, Lloyd Perrett and Frank Winterstein are the only players in that whole squad who make the 1st team.

Absolutely nothing in it. Sharks actually fielded some good players (maybe even their starting halves) and we weren't flogged.

Thought we played well considering.

Addin, Cust and Brian were good. Frank worked hard. Some good stuff from Tanga and Perrett and Jetski. Hastings was pretty good, Brown was pathetic and young Tom is a looonnng way off.

Refereeing was as bad as i've ever seen.

Edit; Fluffy said it better, I wouldn't have commented at all if I had seen his post...but alas I was posting at the same time.

What is Pasekas roll? Really hate to be critical but he needs to get involved. Just looks to be a passenger in both games tonight. When he did take the ball up he looked good but the issue is it's a rare occasion. A lot of potential but just needs to get involved.

Fainu the standout
Perrett looks strong but still needs more aggro
AFB as good as any forward on the field
Tom Wright looked a little lost, but with API, DCE, Tom and whoever the 5/8 will be - hard for any centre
Paseka strong with a few spills
Typical trial....
And - played in Cronulla, the ref deserves special mention.....it was mentioned there would be no play ball calls in trials, yet Manly copped 3 of them on the attack??

After watching the game my stand outs were;
AFB
Tanginoa
Fainu
Lane
Perrett
Sipley
Parker
Lussick didn't get a chance to make any impact as he injured his ankle first tackle .
Looking forward to our second hit out against the Roosters .

Man, I love your loyalty....BUT your steadfast backing of Lewis Brown is in need of a serious rethink. He is absolutely, unequivocally farkin average. And that’s being very very generous.

But it was a sharks reserve grade side 2.

I think they had 5 or 6 out, we had 9 or 10.
Their spine was intact, NONE of our spine played.
I'm pretty happy with the trial and think Baz would be too. It served it's purpose.

We found out a few who are definitely not ready, reinforced who is ready to bench or fill in and how some of our future stars measure up about now........and that Brown is not up to it at all without all our stars around him.
It's time for reggies until your contract expires Lewis, you've had far more than a fair go.

Thanks for the comments as I didn't see the game.

The format does seem to be: "It's close....what do we let Scam smith get away with? Laying in tackles...ok let's ping Manly for one to drive them crazy."

But actually, maybe it's good to get pinged with penalties that shouldn't be (ala play the balls) as it gives Manly an early wake up call that would usually take 2-3 regular games to understand.

Don't get me wrong, it drives me crazy that professional footy players are so stupid that they can't understand a basic change to a basic rule....so it's good they get practise on it.

I wonder if the Storm will get pinged for a wrong play the ball. I can't see Bellamy not drilling these changes into the players. It would be annoying if Barrett doesn't do the same.

Sometimes it's like Manly teams don't believe points from conversions are real (suck at kicking) and meters conceded from penalties are magic fairy floss penalties not to be feared.

Loyalty ?
We should be loyal to what player is best for the team and not for the pin up player in our bedroom wall . I was at the game last night and all I can say is Brown will not be taking our 2018 NRL side to another level . He "has been" a good player in the past for Penrith unfortunately not for the Manly Sea eagles and sadly as we all know all good things come to an end and the end has come for Brown as a dominant NRL player .

That was the impression i got from him last yr and this yr seems to be the same. Just a bit on the T-Rex attitude/workrate. Maybe he was being cautious for a trial so time
Will tell

For those that were able to get some worthwhile impressions from last night"s trial and assuming that A F B goes automatically into next week's starting side , what may seem the best make up for the bench ? Frank . Tanga , Perrett , Fainu , Lane , Sipley and Jetski seemed to put their hands up and i guess that our prop depth is being put to the test already . Fortunately still appears to be some willing contenders but on present indications i just wonder who .

Trials are what trent used them for. To see what fringe players are up to it, i seen criticism but serious out of starting 13 kelly and lussick played while perrett and afb played some time also.
The sharks played the spine

Hard to tell from a trial, but Jetski, Sipley and Tangi were busy and effective.

The relentless heat will play a part in which giant Baz picks in the first 8 rounds IMO
