Lehi Hopoate

Did well to play as many minutes as he did, picked it up in the 12TH minute.

EYE ON THE PRIZE

Every week a new player exemplifies the toughness needed to be an NRL player.

On Sunday, it was Manly rookie Lehi Hopoate who played with an injury so gruesome that his left eye had completely closed up.

But the skilful back only needed one good eye to finish off a left side shift late in the first half to give Manly the lead into the break against the Gold Coast Titans.

It wasn’t until he was taken from the field from a head injury assessment that medical staff discovered the youngster had actually fractured his eye socket.

Does the MRC go back through the video to identify how he got the injury?

He obviously copped some sort of shot to the head but it may well have been friendly fire/head clash.

Just curious to know if the MRC check on stuff like that?

He copped an elbow in the tackle... not a Reuben-on-Fermor type elbow (i know, it was actually a forearm), just an accidental "head-in-the-wrong-place-at-the-wrong-time" type of elbow...

It happened when Fermor scored. Brooks fell on the back of Lehis head that subsequently hit Fermors elbow.

The MRC review the entire game start to finish but there was nothing to see here.

Yesterday Lehi started poor, though to be fair he was far from alone out there having a poor start to the game while wearing a Manly jumper. But he did start turning it around before his try and then forced benching for the eye socket injury.

As much as I am bummed for the kid having this injury, it kinda eliminates a problem before it gets to it. The problem being when Koula is back to be selected, where would Hopoate fit?? Our 1–5 would be pretty set with Turbo, Saab, Koula, Garrick and Talau (though TBH I'd be tempted to keep Talau at centre and move Koula and his speed to the flank).

As much as he's has proven that he deserves to be in first grade, where would he fit in our current backline provided everyone was fit and available for selection??

As for who comes in to replace Hopoate right now, its obviously going to be either Ray or Jaxson Paulo. If it was back at the start of the season I'd say Seibold picks Paulo ... but now I'm not so certain of that.

Ray Ray is suspended and Seibold mentioned either Ben or Faulalo to come in for Hoppa.

I'm throwing this out there, and I know it's early.

But HAS to be in the running for rookie in the year. Like a faster version of a very skilled Michael Robertson .
He's been great but Lachie Galvin surely a lay down misere
