A surprise to me with the 3 year deal but an indication no doubt of the confidence the club has in him as a capable , versatile , utility type competitor . No doubt also not in the higher contract value range but commensurate with his current worth . Also seems a good club man and relatively durable . Would seem a good call all round

would certainly have a go but can"t see him at N R L centre level

He has played at centre for the Warriors at NRL level before. He was also an excellent running five-eight when coming through juniors as well. His passing game is pretty good too. Lawton is pretty much a complete footballer who won't let us down, regardless of what number is on his back.

I’m no Des SuperCoach… but if I’m looking at Parker or Lawton at centre, I’m taking Lawton every day of the week.

Offers more in attack and defensively the side wouldn’t lose anything. Has experience defending on an edge.

It's an interesting proposition, and potentially even more interesting if we have Lawton and Schuster alternating between attack and defence on that left edge. i.e Lawton defending at backrow but attacking predominantly in the left centre position. Schusters attack last season was blunted by his defensive workload. This simple switch could resolve that quite easily. It's not going to happen but it's still a reasonable concept if Parker is injured.

lawnton and croker look the long term utilities. cust and walker situations reflect

this team needs a few more specialists
We do seem to be heavy with utility players don't we? If Manase comes back someone's likely to end up in Blacktown. Particularly as e resigned Walker as well. Des may not be expecting Manase to come back. It's a shame. He has so much heart and so much talent.

Interesting. You would think Crocker will keep starting but does Lawton have a place on the bench yet? Walker is our super-sub and we saw in the finals, having two utility-type players on the bench is a bit of a waste and a bad tactic. Top teams have a big bench normally. Lawton just gonna be depth for now then?

Was thinking the same, unless he has an off-season at hooker and unseats Crocker.

Pragmatically, I don't think he does. Walker will be 14. Absolutely no question in my mind that this is already locked in. I have Lawton, Davey and Bullemore competing for the 15 spot on the bench. Bullemore is my current pick for that spot. As much as I like Lawton there is no guarantee for him to be an automatic pick in 2022.

Yes, where does he fit into the 17 unless he is taking Croker's spot? You can't have him and Walker on the bench at the same time. Bit like Morgan Boyle. Not sure where he fits either?

Except how often does our 'best 17' take the field in any given year? Maybe half a dozen times if we're lucky.
If Lawton isn't in the top 17 he'll be one of the first reserves, and therefore get plenty of NRL.
Bit of a Mitch Aubusson type, probably never hit the rep heights but certainly sufficient quality to figure in some premiership winning teams.
Boyle is necessary prop depth. Can't just go to kids as soon as one of your main guys is unavailable.
Off season training may decide whether Lawton or Bullemor makes Round 1 bench.
Tuipulotu could still surprise and advance quickly in the pecking order.

If Croker starts the game, Lawton could come on at first interchange of a backrower, then when they rest Croker, Lawton goes to 9 with a fresh back rower coming on.

Schuster and Smole are gonna be 80-minute backrowers right. So does that mean 3 middle man bench with Walker as super sub?

I don't think Des would have 3 props on the bench which I agree with, will be interesting to see if he plays Shu the same with Davey , Bullmore,Burbo, Lawton able to play that edge
