Well ... it would be the ironic irony of all time ... that after all the bagging and sledging given on Silvertails ..... if we lost Parker and Croker because we could not match the offers from other clubs .... I would LMAO ... but then I would cry ....

We are going to have a salary cap headache anyway ... quite a few players are playing their way into upgrades ... fortunately not all are off contract, but many are ...

If each upgrade is only $50k - $100k .... that really eats into buying a marque type player ....

Players whose managers will be looking for an appointment would be ...

Parker
Cust
Elliott
Waddell
GoJetski
Fainu
Croker

  • Parker - deserves upgrade if form holds
  • Cust - gets Croker's money
  • Elliott - Depends what the plan is on wing. If Jorge goes there is money available
  • Wadell/Gofdjsksfd - Joel T's money split 50/50 joint venture
  • Fainu - can't keep Fainu and Api so call will have to be made on one, then we get another back up hooker. Plenty around to play 20 minutes. You just need a L'estrange
  • Croker - good luck elsewhere

Cust, Fainu, Waddell all must keeps.

Croker would be on 2/5ths of stuff all ...... but given his breakout game .... if he manages to stay fit .. he could be anything by the end of the year ...

@Briza If both Cust and Croker establish themselves as first graders this year ... then both will want good dollars ..... may be only able to afford to keep one .... and I guess that one would be the best 5/8 foil for DCE .... that may (repeat may) be Croker ...

Some of these boys have contracts, a couple of good games doesn't mean we just upgrade them because we are nice guys.

Also Croker, Jetski and Parker are at this stage not going to be in huge demand.............lets not get ahead of ourselves here

Add to that players like Hodko and Perrett are on good coin and will free up a little space with their departures, plus our 330K penalty being lifted

We will be ok

Imagine Cust would be on less. There is also Hodko's money so perhaps he goes and we keep both. Doubt people will be lining up for Croker though. There is also Metcalf and Dockar-Clay and Schuster. We can be selective with that spot.

Agreed.
So how do Easts manage it?
This is the REAL question !!

Apparently Manu, Radley, Takeaho, Collins don't get upgraded from the $200,000....heck I think they still have Michell down at $450,000...

Cronk retires and they call 1 million to spend, yet signed him for $650,000 - or so they claimed at the time ??

Whatever the Roosters accountant is on, he is their best ever signing !!

And the media just promote their cause every single year. They always announce re-signings such as Keary and Radley last season.., and as soon as someone retires ala Cronk, they suddenly have every single dollar of his contract value to go to market and recruit another star. It is a complete farce.

Why do we need to buy a marquee player. Everyone's saying we must have a marquee player.... I don't get it when we have some of the best juniors in the comp coming through. Reward these hungry youthful guys and we'll reep what we sow. Ponga is a classic example and also the young 17 year old the Rorters are trying to stich up.

Jeeze if you only regard his debut Cust would be second behind only DCE.

It depends on when you want to win a premiership, I guess. We do have some of the best juniors coming through, but history suggests that we will be lucky of 2-3 of them kick on in the next 5 years.

Ponga is a freak. Schuster might come on, but he may take a little longer than Ponga given the positions he plays.

I personally think that if we want to win a comp, not just be competitive, we need to recruit one strike outside back (a winger who can score 15-20 tries a season) and one mid-level edge/middle backrower (eg, a James Fisher-Harris type). That is on top of retaining the junior talent. It is going to be difficult cap wise, no doubt.

Is the bones of what I feel is a Premiership team. Our forwards are probably one marquee short (2 if Thompson leaves).
