Would Arrow be a replacement for Thommo .. ?? ... can he play 2nd row ?
I think he is a middle, not an edge forward, and would likely be on more than Thompson at $600k. I used to think we were paying overs for Thompson, but this year he has certainly being playing at or around that value imo.

You’re right re retention - It’s tough for us punters to work this out without the necessary details! It was great that the contract lengths were published, I just wish they went the next step and published values too. (In saying that, I also understand the argument that it is none of my bloody business what someone gets paid!)

I think Thomo's value is a lot more than his mighty contribution on field .... he is a great role model and mentor for the young players coming through

Why is it that we cant keep (and play) both api and fainu? To keep both it may cost more but it something that is working. A tough gig position and an important one. Playing less then 80 minutes may assist in having at least one of them for every game..

I agree with you, he is an unreal bloke to have at our club.

The question I have, though, is do you pay someone like Thommo more because of his off field mentoring / community work when you have to manage a salary cap? If yes, how much more can you justify spending?

Personally, the majority of a player’s value has to be about what they can do on the park. I could justify a sweetener of about $50-100k for intangibles for a small number of players but that would be max.

I personally like the 2 hooker arrangement, but 1 needs to be a LeStrange type of $ value player.
Good player, not costing a lot.

Api and Fainu will both want big $, and rightly so. We cant afford both in the long term imo.

Edit* I also happen to think Croker would make a very serviceable #14 on minimal $, in future years.

Can you see the point in chasing arrow Bozo?

From my perspective I can see the point of chasing arrow feathered friend . What is your view ?

Arrow to front row

In Jake, Marty and AFB we already have 3 of the best middle forwards in the competition. Waddell is progressing nicely and will need upgrading before too long.

Arrow is a middle forward and already a Queensland Origin player. He would be worth a lot of money which would be better off being spent elsewhere, in my opinion.

Your opinion does have merit . If we could fit him in our cap we would be even more formidable up front

I think - pure speculation here BTW - that Schuster is more likely to end up as a backrower than a five-eighth. He's spent the majority of last season there, and quite a bit of this season. He's been selected in 2nd row for the U18s NSW side. Also...he's a BIG unit for his age, and likely to keep growing.

That being the case, might he end up playing in Thommo's spot at some stage, with Waddell moved permanently to the middle, perhaps? And if that IS the case, another forward like Arrow - who fits the Dessie mould very well - would be very welcome off the bench.

I wouldn't be pinning too much hope on Metcalfe. Cust certainly looks the goods and croker is another des style player. Elgey has flashes of brilliance but he may be the one missing out. Probably keep him as depth cos as we've seen this year it definitely helps to have options in the halves
