Law of Unforseen conseguences

Seems like a waste of dollars for him to play prop in my opinion with Marty and AFB already on the books. We should go after kikau, that would be money well spent

Kikau is a great second rower . I dont know how much Arrow would be on but he would make great impact coming on after Kappow or AFB .

Des likes those tradesman working class heroes like Arrow

I reckon kikau n arrow wouldnt be too far appart in salaries. He would have an imoact but he is a 60-80 min player and probably for the money he would demand it would be crazy to give it to him to play 40. He probably wouldn't want to be a benchie either. Also crazy to have so much cap tied up in our middle.

I can see the point you are making .

AFB and Kappow get 25 minutes each half and they are starting bench players . The engine room is where all games start and finish and having another potent forward up front is advantageous IMO .

If we can't keep Api or Fainu because they both want the minutes, is it worth getting Buhrer back as a #14?

Past it and injury prone and right now he's not even playing first grade at the Knights (named at #20 this week). His contract with them is up at the end of this year and if they don't re-sign him he's not going to have many options because I can't see a lot of NRL teams lining up to sign him regardless of his veteran and utility value.

Don't get me wrong, I like Ferris and really didn't want to lose him when we did. But the truth is that age and injury are starting to catch up to him

If we do lose either Api or Fainu I'm pretty confident either could become like Matt Ballin and turn into an 80 minute player for us. TBH I'd be happier to keep Fainu because I think he has a higher potential from what we've already seen, but if we lose him and keep Api it won't be so bad. I mean, Api was pretty good in 2017 when he was pretty much our sole hooker.

I don’t think most clubs will be lining up to offer big money for Parker (just to pick one). The Panthers (for instance) won’t be thinking that he would be as good under Cleary as he is under Hasler. This isn’t an attack on Brad. I love that he’s in our team and hope he holds his spot but he’s not a natural game winner he’s part of a machine that wins games. All coaches aim to recruit proven game winners like Malone, Cronk, Tedesco, Cleary, etc but few are going to see the value in fringe players who they have to develop and integrate into a system. We have a number of players coming off contract who are good at Manly but would probably struggle to get out of the reserves at other clubs. I think the players know this and so do the other clubs.

Can you see the point in chasing arrow Bozo?

Thank god we signed him up to that long deal after all.

So many clubs are desperate for a top line half and if he was on a regular deal that ended over this year or next, I believe either the broncos, cowboys, Melbourne, roosters or warriors would put in a massive offer for him.

I think out of those teams, the broncos would’ve been an attraction for him.

I was always glad to have him on that long contract but after the last year or so, seeing the lack of quality halves on the market, I’m so glad we locked him up.

That lack of supply for good halves is exactly why I raised the question .... any one of .. or all of .... Cust, Croker or LG may be hard to retain if they continue to blossum this year ..... they could just price themselves out of our ability to retain them ...

Yeah but ... is Cust a good 5/8 or just a halfback ?? ... I don't know ... but if DCE is here for x more years ..... then whoever is the better foil for him will get the inside running .... Cust, LG, Metcalf or Croker ..?? ... I don't know, just saying the decision may be made considering several factors ...

There's always tomorrow Woodsie, even for us old farts. Dreaming of tomorrows always just makes disappointments bumps in the road.

I agree with that one Woodsie. I would retain Cust and let the other two go. With Schuster coming through (hopefully), and Metcalfe to come back we're well covered in the half/five eighth stakes

@Woodise if you think we can win a premiership with Parker and Croker in the side you are a complete Muppet. At full strength, even though they are playing well, Parker and Croker are the weak links.

If you don't understand a conversatioon ... maybe you shouldn't jump in ....

The basis for my comments were.. and are ... that if all our depth players continue to improve ..especially the halves ... then they may/will attract offers from other clubs that will make retaining them problematic .... even as depth players ..

It is a simple discussion ... and at no point have I suggested any particular course of action ...... or suggested they would be my first choice players ....

No team has 17 Internationals in the squad ... and I have seen premierships won with players with much less talent than Parker in them ... and Croker is just a couple of games back from his 3rd knee reconstuction and nailed it ..... you write both of these blokes off a bit too easy ...

If we wanted a half .. I would agree that Cust looks like the best option at the moment ... but with DCE locked in ... we need a foil at 5/8 ... is Cust a better 5/8 than Croker of LG ..?? ....

.... and Metcalf and Shuster may well be the answer .... but until they play first grade we won't know ....

PSS ... Boy this retention gig is easy isn't it ....
