We need to employ an Acting Coach. We are not milking the penalties like other teams.

There was one point today where Croker got pinged for a crusher that was a crusher by the technical term, but was a joke otherwise. The Knights player played for it by holding the back of his neck. Not 5 minutes earlier, the same player got tackled by Paseka and one of his own team mates got caught up in the tackle and his team mate actually ended up giving him a crusher.

When he looked up to see who was on top of him (his own team mate) ... all pretense of acting stopped and he just got up and played the ball.

100% players are playing for crusher penalties.

Cannot stand the rule. Milking every game. No intention in those tackles either. Bloody ridiculous

I had some concerns before this game.

We were coming off an emotional win against a huge enemy and it was a tough and resilient performance and I think it took a bit out of us.

I knew that Newcastle would put in a performance at home and it meant that our discipline and attitude needed to be spot on.

Earlier today we learned that Schuster had hurt himself in training and would be out and that added further to my fears that we would be in trouble today.

The changes forced some weird selections, Funa at 5/8 caught me by surprise especially as we needed someone who had an understanding of the role. It also meant that all the heat was on DCE as he was our sole kicker in general play and it really hampered us.

The game started with Manly on the back foot from the get go as Cumming started the torture with repeat sets and penalties and it was only the Knights errors that kept them at bay and we scored a nice try created by DCE and a runaway one from Saab scooping up a lose ball, so great that we have speed on the counter attack.

For me the turning point of the match came 9 minutes from half time. A high ball, a high tackle from Funa who instead of challenging the guy took him out, he is on report, we could potentially have had a 16-0 lead, instead they get it down field and Keppie stupidly takes out their half and not only do we concede another penalty we lose a player and they took full advantage to score two crucial tries in the last 5 minutes of the half. Gosh that was disappointing!

You always know when you play up in Newcastle that the refs will give you nothing and that you must be disciplined with and without the ball and that madness before halftime set the tone for the rest of the match.

The 2nd half arm wrestle ensured and Newcastle had something to defend and only once did we create pressure only to give the ball up while attacking.

I have seen some crook officiating in my time but today took the biscuit! I do understand that the crackdown on high tackles is here to stay. I have no problem with the decisions regarding Funa and Keppie. What I found mind blowing is that Marty is binned for one retrospectively and Frizzell who did the same thing was only put on report, when he should have had the same fate. WTF was the bunker thinking???? To me this was the decisive play as we played 20 minutes a man short and we got no advantage from Frizzells indescretion!

The penalty count really upset me. We saw examples during the game of Newcastle being allowed to slow it down. We got 1 reset and a penalty right in the last 30 seconds of the game. Cummings over the years has never done any favours to us and today he outdid himself.

When are the NRL going to start dealing with some of the problems in the game. There were forward passes ignored. the ruck and offside was policed for only one team today.

This is a timely lesson for our younger players that you MUST be disciplined when you play this game.

I thought overall our defence did OK. The two soft tries from dummy half were annoying an their first try had a definite question mark about being forward.

We were hamstrung today without a 6, gosh that jersey is cursed right now.

Hopefully the plethora of reports is not too bad and it was an expensive day today.

I do hope that young Saddler is not too badly injured, it looked very nasty.

Disappointing day, a lead squandered and a harsh lesson learned.

The bye is timely, it will allow a few guys to recover from injuries.

Draw a line under this game and move on!

The Knights were desperate for a win and it showed. They also had the officials onside. If one or two of the 40/20's that DCE went for had bounced slightly right he would have been a hero, but as usual some on here choose to bash him...his play to set up Parkers try was phenomenal..but you know, he needs to be better on the back of a decimated forward pack..

Teams lose, we didn't play well and got shafted by the ref, earlier in the year we lose this by 30. Happy for the bye this week.
Well put. We had no right to be down by 2 late in the game.

The late re-shuffle with Funa coming in at 6, after Foz, Cust and Schuster were all ruled out, obviously didn't help. Neither did Cummins doing everything in his power to screw us over. But we still should have won that. Mistakes, probably due to fatigue, cost us.

Still very happy with the defensive effort. We played with 12 men for 20 minutes, and the lopsided penalty count meant we got very little possession. We had to be smart and effective with the ball we got, and we were neither.

Let's see how we go after the bye.

The quality of our great game seems to be heading towards that of the round ball game.
Do what I do, go to NRL.com, scroll right down the farging bottom and find the fine print 'Contact Us'. then scroll again right down the bottom again where it says 'Get in touch'. Then choose 'Complaint' under 'type of enquiry' and "rules and officiating" under 'what you enquiry is related to', fill in the farging blanks, and then go to town on the 'comments' section with no $10,000 fines!!!!
I suggested that A F@#King Cement truck should be driven into the Bunker!

One for the bunker, the rest laying in wait near the M1 waiting for Cummins to drive back to Sydney.....

IMO, this loss was down to two factors:
1. out-enthused in the forwards which meant DCE and Turbo were nullified considerably; everything had to come off a lack of ruck speed.
2. Knights were that bad in attack, we stayed in the game and even had some chances but executed poorly.

If we played a better side today, we lose by 30.

Know any Concrete Truck Companies that are happy to 'Protest' the NRL Rules inconsistencies to line up some Concrete Trucks outside the Bunker as a protest? Maybe not just Sea Eagles supporters but NRL Supporters as a whole are losing confidence in the officiating. Maybe Concrete Trucks all over Sydney line up outside stadiums and bunkers. NRL Refs and Officials overstepping their hands.
BOZO would love it!

I wasn't really that happy with our defence. Time and time again we allowed the Newcastle forwards to come through the middle, and roll up the field. Actually, I would say that our middle forwards collectively had one of their worst games defensively this season.

The fatigue that you wrote about was due to the team constantly being on the back foot because of this, and Cummins refereeing which was obviously one-sided. We just didnt really seem in the game at any time, after the first half sin bin. I'm really dissapointed in the loss, not because we lost, but because we seemed disinterested, unfocused and not prepared to win this game. Oh well such is life, but our resolve and resilience, when under pressure is under question again, after that loss.

All fair points, mate. Here's hoping they learn from it.

We played an enormous game last week that took a lot out of the players, as you could see by the parra game, add to that the refereeing in todays game and you have the ingredients of a loss, the bye will do us good , rested and ready to go against cowies..

Knights threw nothing at us.
We were down 9-0 in the penalty count.
Down a player at a certain stage.
Down key players and away from home.
We were in it up until the final minutes and defended on our line on several occasions. Our defence kept us in it. Our attack let us down.

We didn’t play well but we did play with heart. First 4 rounds we had zero heart and that was my biggest complaint. So I can forgive a loss away from home, after a huge emotional win last week and down key players.
