Kane Elgey

It is an amazingly tough game on body and mind - how players like beaver or even Gal play for so long is amazing.

There are 2 factors that play a role in a athletes longevity

1. Body wise it is all about the dedication to ones health and fitness and a bit of luck along the way avoiding bad injuries

2. Mind wise it is all about the passion and desire to keep competing

I have massive respect for this decision from Kane. Players live and breathe footy and to have to decide to retire early is very mentally tough for them to make. I wish Kane all the best

Yep, would be tough to walk away from what you know so huge respect if he does especially as he could easily take the money and go through the motions.
Obviously too much pride to be running around at places like Ringrose Park when he knows the firsts are playing at Brookie ( sorry Mr Penn, I mean Lottoland )

Can play and seems like a really good young bloke. Probably not a lot of coin in it but if the dinosaurs at the NRL could help entice players like him to play in the bush, and I mean the bush not some coastal resort then it would be a draw card to help the game out there.
But as I said...

Playing in the bush years ago used to actually be a serious option for the Sydney players, especially those who were on the cusp of representative selection yet were behind established test players who had a mortgage on the City, NSW and Kangaroos spots. A prime example there was Arko who left Manly and went bush to Parkes in an effort to break into representative footy because he played at a time when Keith Holman at Wests had the halfback rep spots pretty much to himself.

If they actually brought back something like the City vs Country games, but maybe changed it to residence rather than just an NRL players only based origin (i.e. City would generally consist of NSW Cup players while Country would have players actually playing in the country), players like Elgey could well end up playing in the CRL and have a less pressure packed path back to the top level.

Very sad seems like a good style of bloke.
One thing that strikes me about Elgey is he's always smiling, and at post match functions and the like he appears very sociable and an all round friendly guy.

How his mind is behind that smile is anyone's guess but good luck to him. Wherever he ends up I hope he's happy and keeps smiling.

There are only 2 factors? No more alternatives?Pretty definitive and narrow,no other options than those?
