Josh Addo Carr stood down

He brought his club and the game into disrepute, I'm sure that is a violation of his contract, so no payout would be due.
I’ve read that they can’t sack him without having to payout his contract, which is why he is still there. They’re hoping he will find a suitor and that will limit the damage to their cap. I don’t think he is any hope of staying at the Dogs and both parties are resigned to moving on…the hold up is where and how much.

From memory the penalties at law are exactly the same as low range drink driving, but the illegality of drugs v legality of alcohol means its a worse look for the NRL.
There might have been some player sacked for a first offence of drug possession, but I can't remember it happening. Certainly have been quite a few players busted in recent years either with drugs or with 'white powder' etc they tend to get big headlines, big fines, have to say sorry, miss a couple of games I think.
It is more the way he has been saying how he misled the club, not told the truth etc

How stupid is this, he gets sacked for a serious offense and gets rewarded with another contract and another club profits from it. Should have being banned for two tears by the NRL
I agree. However, it will hit him in his pocket because he won't get offered the same deal he was already on. Damaged goods.
I do think it's time for a straight 2 year ban from the game for anyone caught taking illegal drugs. These blokes (and ladies) are supposed to be people our children look up to and hero worship. Having them caught with drugs (or in their system) and subsequently lying about it isn't the example we should want young people following.

Yep be a PROFESSIONAL league player OR be a recreational drug user... only significant time out of the game (and working in the real world?) is going to deter these kids from trying to do both...

I have no problem with drug use (in the right arena between consulting adults that are not operating machinery) but PROFESSIONAL athletes should be expected to act professionally both on and off the field...

In the Real world there are real people with real issues and all of us have issues
This does not mean we are all excused from doing the wrong thing
This means we are all accountable for our own actions and I agree with you that if we do the crime we do the time .

Endorsing drug use is Encouraging drug use and this is Wrong
There is a BIG problem with recreational drug use and so I do not agree with you there
The Big problem is that These drugs have a BIG affect on short and long term physical and mental health issues
A persons Mental Health issues does not only impact the drug user .They also impact the rest of society

How sad it is that some people need drugs to get on an ARTIFICIAL high
Artificial happiness is a false sense of happiness

Delusional Drug users do not only mislead other people . They mislead them selves
These people are affected by the the psychotic affect of drug use .

Could not agree more @BOZO BUT my approach is that trying to prevent recreational drug use is like holding back the ocean with your hands - ie. It may make you feel like you tried but realistically you achieve nothing...

Let people do their thing but there HAS to be punishment enforced when they start impacting upon others AND they should not get paid a ****eload of money for being a profeessuonal athlete if they cannot even act professionally...

Yes but it is a chicken/ egg scenario for a lot of people @BOZO

Do individuals have mental health issues because of drug use/abuse or did they begin taking drugs because of an existing/underlying mental health issue?

We are not all cut from the same cloth or stitched into a common patchwork... none of which means people should not be bound by the same societal rules...

Poor mental health makes good choices harder but there is PLENTY of help if an individual wishes to seek it out - and I would suggest that NRL players have access to more services than your average kid from the streets...

Well played Gus, well played

Took something that could have literally not been disclosed and managed to move on a highly paid player
