Interesting in a recent interview with Snake, he mentioned King and Matai as the toughest players he's played with

Early in Kings career I remember he played a full game with a broken leg. He was very tough!

and Matai played most of his career with chronic neck and shoulder pain (understandable when you consider how hard he whacked in defence. Those hits would have hurt him almost as much as the victims)

What hurt Matai more than his impacted chronic injuries more was Manly losing
Matai was a highly competitive player
Matai played with passion to win and with no preservation with out regard for his own safety , well being or survival .
A player who put his body and his life on the line

I'd been thinking about this highlight - one of the rare Northern Eagles highlights I can remember - ever since this thread arose from the dead. Again, pretty early on in King's career, and what a great way to announce himself. Thanks for posting!

All tough players along with king ,matai , choc and glen stewart. But when you look up the definition of tough in the dictionary there’s a photo of terry randall. The other bloke that never gets a mention is Steven knight….never took a step back and could throw them.

One thing about Rambo was, he's the same size as Grasshoppa or Faulalo without the shoulder pads. They don't called him Kamikaze or Rambo Gibbs for nothing. Also remember the chip & chase try he did WOW, that was like 20mtrs I think. I reckon Talau can be that man to partner Ola ASAP.

The year we won the comp 87 rambos last year. When Rambo was stuffed the trainer would bring out some fake blood smear it on him and then Paul Shaw would cone on and run the other team ragged. The good old days.
