Off-contract NRL player Jamil Hopoate has been arrested on a serious drug charge.
The 26-year-old is in custody after being refused bail by police earlier today.
The son of former footballer John Hopoate is facing one count of supplying a prohibited drug.
He will spend the night behind bars and appear in Central Local Court tomorrow.
Jamil Hopoate left the Broncos last year and hasn't yet signed with another club.

Hopoate was recently let go by the Brisbane Broncos and his NRL career appeared finish (sic), even before these fresh allegations, after pleading guilty to assaulting his partner, Shae Beathe, in the car park of a club at Port Macquarie, last Christmas.
He was with another woman at the time of his arrest.

Former Manly and Brisbane player Jamil Hopoate - the son of notorious NRL bad boy John Hopoate - has been charged over a large-scale cocaine haul.Recently sacked NRL star Jamil Hopoate has been charged over a large scale cocaine importation, after allegedly leading policeon a daring daylight pursuit.
Police will allege the son of notorious former Manly player John Hopoate, and the brother of Bulldogs star Will Hopoate wasallegedly seen accessing a truck linked to a haul of cocaine at Port Botany about 10.30am on Tuesday morning.
Moments later it is alleged the 26-year-old and a woman got into a car and left the area.
When NSW Police, who had been surveilling the truck, attempted to intercept the pair Hopoate allegedly took off, leading officers on a pursuit through the streets of Botany.

At one point it is alleged he decide to get out of the vehicle and took off on foot.
Police allege Hopoate threw a backpack containing a smaller amount of cocaine over a fence, as police continued their chase.
He was eventually arrested and after spending the day being questioned by police, was charged with supplying a large commercialquantity of cocaine and using a vehicle to avoid apprehension.
Hopoate will face Central Local Court on Wednesday.
Hopoate was let go by the Broncos at the end of the 2020 season after he made his NRL debut for the club in Round 1.
He was left without a club for the 2021 season with potential offers snuffed out after he pleaded guilty in February to hittinghis partner Shae Beathe to the ground before allegedly getting in his car and driving away from the scene.
He pleaded guilty to two charges of common assault relating to allegations he struck Beathe in the carpark of the Club Pantherslicensed venue in Port Macquarie on December 28 last year.
Hopoate was thrown out for spitting on security after he and Beathe — the mother of his 10-month-old child — became embroiled in an argument.
Court documents showed Hopoate was alleged to have knocked Beathe to the ground after striking her with his open palm.
She was taken to hospital by police for treatment and Hopoate was pulled over and charged with mid-range drink driving afterrecording a blood alcohol reading of 0.095.
The incident was said to have cost Hopoate an opportunity with a Sydney-based NRL side.
Hopoate played 12 NRL games last season — as a lock and second-rower — for the Broncos, who came in last place.
He had also been sacked by the Manly Sea Eagles after he was jailed for one year in 2014 and issued with a two-year goodbehaviour bond over a violent attack on two men outside a Manly pub.

THIS is why our club needs to distance itself from muppets and people of poor moral stature.
If we have people on our books who have had repeat DV or drink driving issues, or are 'known' to police...... we need to cut them loose. For the good of our club, our reputation, and our standing in our community.
These guys don't seem to 'improve' over time.... so cut the cancers out EARLY.

A sad downfall of a kid who showed marked potential throughout his teens, and threw it down the toilet through foolish indiscipline and substance abuse. Lost his chance through that serious assault and imprisonment, was on the road back and looked good in lower grades, but I would suspect allowed his social life to distract him from his chance to make it big. Using cocaine, suggests he was struggling to cope with a lifestyle that was going backwards. Pretty certain he's lost to Rugby League

Police deconstructed the consignment and said it contained 514 kilograms of compacted white powder, which was tested and allegedly returned a presumptive positive result for cocaine.
A controlled delivery was conducted and state crime detectives stopped a van on Banksia Street, Botany, about 10.50am on Tuesday.
“As officers approached the van, the female driver allegedly reversed the vehicle at speed before the male passenger ran from the vehicle and threw a backpack into a nearby yard,” NSW Police said in a statement on Wednesday.
“Police gave chase on foot and arrested the 26-year-old man a short distance away.”
Hopoate was initially taken to hospital for a minor leg injury, then to Mascot police station. The woman, a 33-year-old from Collaroy, was also arrested.
Officers retrieved the backpack and searched it, along with a vehicle and an unattended truck in Pagewood, police said.
Hopoate was charged with supplying a large commercial quantity of a prohibited drug. The woman is facing the same drug charge, and using an offensive weapon in company to prevent detention.
Both were refused police bail and are due to face Central Local Court on Wednesday
