Jamie did ask for a release. David May has confirmed it. Manly didnt approve of his release. Jamie's agent agreed to the offer that the Titans had tabled him. Jamie agreed verbally BUT Manly will not release him. Thats it i guess.

Why are the titans approaching players under contract to another club and inducing them break their contract.

If the independant commision actually ran the game properly the titans would be heavily fined.

30. Every Club and person bound by this Code must not do anything that might induce the breach of an NRL Playing Contract, an NRL Short Form Contract or a Playing Agreement.

It's not a breach of contract if agreed by the parties.

So it's written in words then, what are the all or the mysterious commission gonna do about it?
Nothing.

Obviously that is why the Titans approached Manly first, so they would not be in breach of this rule.

Trouble is that scenario doesnt make sense to me. Why would Manly agree to another club commencing negotiations with our club captain and star player who is 1) already under contract to us 2) we really cant do without in 2013 and 3) who we had no intention of releasing (as evidenced today) ?

Because the club likes Jamie and appreciates what he has done for us. Therefore, go ahead and see if you can set yourself up for life, we aren't saying we'll just let you go but we won't stop you seeing what's out there. So see what they are offering and get back to us.
All sounds reasonable to me – except for the Titans desperate bid to get mileage out of something that was never a done deal, and was probably never likely to be.
