James Segeyaro

I hope Crusher is on the lookout for the next Max Krillich or Matt Ballin coming through the lower grades - and not just our lower grades. If number 9 is starting to be the most important position on the field, we look very skinny on depth. We need a dedicated, specialist number 9 who can predict which side of the ruck to direct the traffic (and tackle, and run...).
We are pretty well stocked mate..
GCKTong.
Local Jrs O'Donnell and Cummins in the Ball side.
Both the Fulton grandsons are playing some dummy half and going well,Jake in the Matthews has won the starting spot and is improving regularly and Kobe in our Ball side is coming off the bench as a utility 9/half and is a bit of a try scorer from dummy half.
Young Fakaua in the Flegg side has come out of nowhere and is showing some real talent(good pick up from our recruitment team)

Penn needs to pull some strings and get Fainu's trial date brought forward to next month, it's getting beyond a joke now. Surely he has some friends in high places. The similarities to Bretts case are coming back to haunt us once again, except this one seems never ending.

Marketing dream for the club if one or both Fulton grandsons turn out to champions as well. I know we all had expectations for Brett and Scott, but it turns out their talents are off the field rather than on it.

Still, hope springs eternal. Just another world class number 9 right now, hopefully from our juniors - who lives and breathes Manly.

All are great, can we fast forward?

I’m told I’m a “ triggered boomer “, I’m not sure what the **** that actually means but I’m certainly a boomer and proud of it !!

James Segeyaro is inching closer to an NRL return after being handed a contract by the Sea Eagles in a move which could see him play first grade as early as next week. Segeyaro has not played in the top grade since a 13 game stint ended with Brisbane in 2019. It is understood he has landed a train-and-trial contract with Manly that will allow him to be eligible for first grade in just two weeks. The $1000-a-week deal is for the rest of the season after the PNG international impressed for Manly’s feeder-club Blacktown Workers where he has switched between halfback and hooker.

James Segeyaro in action for Manly’s feeder club, Blacktown Workers. Picture: NRL Photos He will provide much needed cover for Sea Eagles regular rake Lachlan Croker with Manly struggling for depth at hooker. If the 31-yeear-old does get the chance to add to his 154 game tally, it would be remarkable comeback considering he spent 20 months sidelined after testing positive to a banned substance after using a housemate’s blender. Clubs are able to pick players from outside their top 30 without NRL approval from round 11, meaning Segeyaro is free to be selected as early as next when the Sea Eagles take on the Eels.

Lachlan Croker has been Manly’s starting hooker this season. Picture: Getty The Sea Eagles brought Segeyaro in as extra cover after Karl Lawton was suspended for four weeks for a dangerous throw. Sidelined hooker Manase Fainu is back in court on May 27. Fainu has been stood down under the NRL’s no-fault policy since 2019 after he was charged for allegedly stabbing someone. Fainu was set to be Manly’s long-term hooker before the incident.

Interesting.

Especially the part where clubs can pick players outside their top 30 without nrl approval from round 11.

In that case... let's get a few nfl guys (to barge over, not to throw forward like the rorters)

... the old "housemate's blender" defence, eh?

Not sure he’s able to play NRL with a train and trial contract until he is upgraded to a full or development contract,so by the time he may get a contract,Lawton would be close to a return. No chance Segeyaro,Walker and Lawton are on the bench.I suspect Segeyaro will be looked at closely during his train and trial time and if signed, only there as a back up for Croker or if Fainu’s case looks to drag out longer

Many thanks for this @stoodamire and how interesting. Certainly didn't know about picking players outside the 30 from round 11 without approval.

He could definitely come in handy for our upcoming games as a back-up, especially in Lawton's absence. Me thinks good news.
