Jamal Fogarty

Some people here seem a bit disappointed to realise Fogarty may not be the next Immortal or even next Test halfback.
That aside, Manly has done very well to recruit him and I'll think he'll be very good for us. Obviously he is not DCE, but we had plenty of DCE, so on to a different style for a change.
I don’t think it’s that at all. I think some people are inflating the prowess of the new signing and others are offering a healthy dose of reality. I’m right behind Fog’s signing but I’m confident that I’m seeing the same things the commentators have seen in the last couple of weeks…so there’s not get out of jail free card for Fog in my books. He’s fair game.

Fogarty is a good footballer and therefore an appropriate signing for Manly. However, suspect that three years is probably one year too long - and that near the end he will have joined Manly's regular 'Dads Army'.

Yes totally different style and completely different player to Cherry. Individually I would certainly put Cherry a few notches ahead on the brilliance factor. Team wise and team management wise I am thinking Jamal is ahead. So will be interesting to see how he goes.

Do we have better odds of winning the premiership next year with the change? I am thinking yes purely on the basis that Jamal might (better than Cherry) unlock the potential we have across our very gifted backline. Throw in some younger blood in our forwards and we may actually have a shot next year.

Yeah, I think the three years was necessary to get him over the line. Anything less and he probably stays in Canberra for two years on similar coin.

Personally, I’m not expecting him to come and help us contend for a premiership. I think he showed in the semi finals that he is a rung below the kind of halfback that elevates a team into premiership contention. However, young halves (Large and Walsh) are often talented but caught out in decision making, particularly around 5th tackle options. Neither are ready for that responsibility and for that reason, a solid organising half with a great kicking game is the what’s required until those more talented youngsters are reading to steer the ship.

If Fog gives us two solid years and is sold to the UK or used as depth in the 3rd, is probably better than trying to avoid the spoon next year with a really patchy performance from our younger up and comers. I recall Cleary taking a few years to truly get going (he always had the kicking game though) and Galvin is really struggling. It’s hard for youth in such a pivotal position.

I think you and I are on the same page… Fogarty is a placeholder that gives us a chance of playing finals during the next season or two until we bring our young halves through… can’t see him elevating our fortunes greatly but not overly disappointed in the signing given our (lack of) options..

lucky we got rid of Weekes then. He was terrible last night.

I dont mind Fogarty coming to Manly to replace DCE.
However, can you imagine the blow-up on Silvertails if he misses as many tackles as he has the last 2 weeks.
You dont know what you have got until its gone. That might be our catch-cry next season???

We dont need to Fogarty to be the game winner. We want a half back that does the basics correctly. Kicking well and controlling the game. Hopefully Walsh will be the game breaker and we have enough strike weapons if we are more organised. DCE always made plays on what he saw... off the cuff.. mainly for himself.. if nothing on he looks for a pass.. usually a hospital pass too.

I hope we can send Brooks to England next season. Unlikely I know.. I want to see Walsh progress with Fogarty.

Yeah, but he wasn't coming here just for the 2yrs tho.

Never been a massive Fogarty fan as you can tell by my earlier posts in this thread. He will not be the messiah that wins us 20 matches as season, but he just might come and do his job to 100% of his ability.

Now he is coming I am excited to see what he brings, maybe he is the new Orford.

Forget what happened last night, the Raiders goose was cooked by the NRL the week before. Simply not fair to judge a player on their bad nights, anyone seen the 2007 Grand Final????

I look forward to those towering bombs dropping on opposition fullbacks at Brookie next year. Let hope he stays fit and on the field.

and Ramien .... not to mention AFB @
Let’s be honest; AFB has been the best middle in the game for the better part of 6-7 seasons now. If he was eligible for SOO, he’d be talked about more than Payne Haas. He was out of sight, out of mind in NZ for a few years but he’s always been the best.

“I just feel that it was gone by their right-hand defence. They were lacking in confidence,” Roosters premiership second-rower Bryan Fletcher said, with Burns strolling through Zac Hosking and Jamal Fogarty for his decisive try, before the same players were beaten by a grubber from Wilton.

“The Sharks could smell blood in the water, they kept going at it. What typifies it, pretty much sums it up for me, they (Canberra) got back to 12-all, it’s in a semi-final, you’re at home, and Billy Burns scores a try (where) nothing is on. There is no decoy, it’s just hard running, and you’re in a semi-final and you let this happen.

Fogarty had a tough night in his final game for the Raiders before moving to Manly, in a sad end to a terrific season for the veteran No.7.

Manly premiership five-eighth Kieran Foran added: “There’s been a disconnect on their right-side defence for some time now, and it really is between Fogarty and (Matt) Timoko there. They just tend to want to map everything, go into slide straight away.

“I don’t think they varied it up enough in terms of their jam defence and sliding defence. They always showed their hand early and the Sharks clearly did their homework and targeted that area.”

Foran added: “He looked nervous. He kicked OK throughout the contest, I thought he nailed a few spiralling kicks, but ultimately what we spoke about at the start of the game was around his defence and his organisation.

“He has pressure on him coming into the game for key moments, big moments under pressure. But tonight, it wasn’t so much those moments, it was his execution in attack that let him down but also his reads in defence,” Anasta said.
The comments from Foran are a little surprising considering he was supposedly in control of the Titans on the field yet they finished equal last with the Knughts. As for Anasta…….zzzzzzzzzzz. Watch him cum in his pants when he fires up about his beloved Bulldogs. Let’s see if he critiques Galvin as much if they lose! FMD I can’t stand that dribbling twat!

Yeah it feels wrong quoting Anasta as any kind of authority 😂
