Jamal Fogarty

Also need a stop gap organiser for a couple of yrs to bring the other young ones through. Fogarty would fit well I think.
Like most of us here, I was shocked and terribly disappointed to hear the news of DCE's departure. However, the thought of Jamal Fogarty playing half really excites me. I have been a fan for a number of seasons and believe he is the most underrated half in the comp.

There are so many although I am pleased to see @byso pop up now.

Over the years this place lost it tolerance for different views and opinions which has mean many of the early adopters had enough.

If you dig deep and see the way the chat used to go on here you would think everyone hated each other when it was far from it - there was an underlying respect towards each other despite the differences. There was even the ability for people to change their mind after discussion....something missing today

He has a manager that handles negotiations and there was no need for the media circus.
Every single person in the rugby league world has been talking about DCE all week, and this will probably continue all season, until he makes an equally dramatic signing announcement.

So if the manager's job is to raise DCE's profile for a post-playing media career... he's doing a great job!

There is a few of them on the first page of the thread atm…
@susan (account gooone)
@kevinward (account gooone)
@thebetterrobbo (account gooone)

Seems they are not just inactive but have given up on the forum altogether… their mental health must be thriving 😀

Used to like @ Snakes input as well , especially with his apparent closer in club connections previously .
But also quite a few others of course apart from the ones you referred to .
Sure that they would all be welcomed back if returning would be of some interest to them .

You know more than me but do we not need a "manager" style role? If you look at the storm who basically play with a manager at 9 and the rest of the play makers are fullbacks I can see how we could line up that way
Firstly you are right, teams generally need a great organiser and a great runner in the halves.
But I would argue this seasons leading Premiership contender Melbourne Storm boast 2 x running plaers more so than organisers in Hughes and Munster and only get away with it, due to the smartest 9 in the comp in Harry Grant....which we certainly don't have.
But.....To be brutally honest I see 2 potential windows over next 3 years....
2025 and 2027, with 2026 being a new era type season and I know of 2 halves who will be primed by 2026 and personally see Galvin as a gun lock and missing link to what we do over the next decade if this "rumour" became reality....wait till November to find out :wondering:

So are we better off if?

DCE leaves

We sign Fogarty 2 years 600k
Tom and Jake extend and save 500k on the new contacts (i say 500k combined because the nrl will check the contract because it’s Manly) (but Hunt can leave dragons and take 400k less and nothing gets said)

We would have Money left over

Then in 27/28 we save 200k on Josh S

How about Galvin ?
Out and out footballer who has the ability to double down as a great lock forward
I don’t mind Galvin, but it could be DCE mark 2, he’ll end up costing us cap space and if you’ve watched his footy, he doesn’t mind going after the low % plays, theres a fair bit of Benji ball you’d have to reel in, his a player though no doubt and a genuine footballer.

I think we need to go with the game manager, it’s what we’ve lacked for so long, it also lets us back into the market to boost our pack, so Fogarty would be the better option, good with his boot, works with our cap, works in harmony with the development of our younger guys without overly disrupting our future plans, if Jamal takes up his option with the raiders, which I believe he has to exercise by round 6, not long to wait before we know if we’re a chance of securing his services.

We can always give Lehi a shot at 6, depending on how our seasons travelling, maybe even during origin given a particular set of circumstances, if not perhaps towards the end of the year if we look like missing the semis and have no successor lined up.

Fogarty would be the safe option but must be a bit of doubt whether he can actually be available and really should not be paying overs , especially for 2 years .
Quite impressed with the Rooster"s Sandon Smith at least ability wise .
Really can not see Turbo playing at 6 , Brooks in general is playing much better and consistently as a 6 but guess that in a priority situation and no other suitable halfs available , might have to be considered there
Plenty of talented fullbacks have made the successful transition to a 6 role and also have the notion that Lehi could adapt and go well there despite probably having not much previous experience there
Sure that there will be plenty of attention on how well Walsh can progress this season , i am hopeful he has the necessary skills and ability just on some indications

We have coverage for the halfback spot with Brooks, and options for five eighth, including TT2.
This combination probably only need to cover 2026 as the young guns will step up in 2027.
