Jake Trbojevic offers nothing in attack

He does the most difficult job in the the NRL.

Defends the the centre of the field, with him and Croker the area around the ruck is almost bullet proof.

But yeah get rid them both. But first tell me the 2 players that Manly replace them with who will make their combined 80 plus tackles every match added to the required attacking skills. Yeo and Murray are probably the most likely candidates I suppose.

Maybe we should get rid of Haumole because his defence is nowhere near as good as Jake or Croker. I mean there is no reason he doesnt knock out 40-50 tackles a match???? Its the same logic.

I still think he’s a Prop HOWEVER who replaces him at 13, and therein lays the problem.

Which means for the foreseeable future he’ll wear the 13 jersey.

He's a 40 minute middle who should be on about 500 - 600k not the rediculous 900k+. If we play him at #13 with Aloha , Pillow and Sips/Taki as our middles then it'll be more of the same plodding forward pack of the last few years. Add in Brown who looked like he was running in mud last night. Has anyone seen that photo of Junior Paulo at Parra he's deadset gone from butterbean physique to SBW.

I tend to agree but Paseka is on $600K, so Jake has to be worth $750K.

As for him being a prop, number on jersey might as well be lotto numbers. He is a middle and I dont care if he wears 8 13 or 666.

Not happy that we are paying Jake so much, however I am more pi**ed that we resigned oshay on way more than he is worth and for way too long
How about Waddell on a 3 year deal. Brown on a multi year deal. Lodge on any deal after refusing our contract and being caught red faced etc. acquiring Tevaga and losing Lawton (when Humphreys could have that spot). Aloiai an extension.

It's all very .....confusing.

Plus we are still paying for Schuster ....

Shouldn't be surprised mate. The crazy deals and absurd contracts have been going on for a decade since the back flip fiasco.

The problem with Jake as a prop is that he makes SFA metres or post contact metres. We have matchstick thin outside backs who make more post contact metres. Maybe 2 or 3 times a season he pulls out a 150+ metres running game, but they're becoming as rare as his offloads.

His biggest strength was always his defence, but the 6 again rule has largely sped up the game and nullified that. How often do we hear "Jake get off" from the refs because he takes (in their opinion) too long to get off a tackled player?? Its like its become part of the commentary for Manly games.

I like Jake, we all do. Its hard not to like the bloke. But the reality is that we're paying an awful lot of money out of the salary cap for someone who's game literally plateaued 5 years ago.

Waddells sister marrying Jake all but shored up Coreys future at Manly. 😉
Now if we could get Garrick to convince his brother in law Tyran to leave Melbourne and Bellamy, well I would be very happy with that.

Agree his metres arent great however his job is to land on his knees and get a quick play the ball. His play the ball is one of the quickest in the NRL. Its almost a voluntary tackle.

But is it worth wasting a hit up for a possibly faster play the ball?? Not really when trying to run it off our own line.

Since 2017, Jakes post-contact metres read as such:

2017 - 1,165
2018 - 967
2019 - 857
2020 - 738
2021 - 714
2022 - 548
2023 - 501
2024 - 500

His average run metres per game over the same period has also dropped from a peak of 134 and 135 in 2017 and 2018, down to just 72 per game last year. And that itself was a 24 metre drop per game just from 2023.

Jake is honestly more there for his leadership than for his current level of gameplay. That much was evident in Origin last year.

Just looking at the physiques of the Broncos forwards compared to some of ours. They are deadset ripped. Event Marty Taupau looks in great shape Can't say the same of some of the Manly forwards so far.

Jake is a hell of a defender but it’s 2025. You need speed too. These days you need to do it all. Slow players have their moments but very predictable in attack.I am far from an expert but Jake is very slow. Too slow I’m afraid. It can work with Jake but we need turbo as a regular and the like. Once injuries stick it’s ugly head in then what are we left with. I feel the game has moved on and sometimes feel left behind. I like Jake but….
