Jake’s Logic

Yeah it really bugs me. He just hangs on way too long, half of them seem deliberate. Maybe he is doing it to help others get the line set but I wish he'd cut the crap.
I have been convinced for a while that it is out of the hasler playbook...

I may be wrong but it often seems deliberate and I remember Des going through his short dropout period at the dogs because he was confident that it is easier to defend your line from 10-15m out... Jake is just ensuring that the defence has enough time to get set...

The pullback was dumb but if he does not do it then Nof probs scores so I guess it was a risk that payed off...? Did also remind me of the Souffs semi tho...

I would go so far as to say its part of his personal gameplan from Des and the coaching team.
To be a disrupter and push the boundaries of what the individual referee on the day will allow. He's a smart footy player and no way is it just bad game management that hes always the one to slow the ruck, pull back a support or just to have fingers in the pie so to speak.

As we know Jake has a big motor and can definitely go for the full 80. However, I think he would actually be of more benefit to us now with both Shoe and Foz in the side as well as Tom if Jake was moved to the prop rotation and actually got a 20-30 minute break each game. IMO some of those 6 again's he gives away are more through fatigue than anything and giving him a break every now and then wouldn't be a bad thing.

Move Jake to prop, Shoe to lock with Siro and Guac as the back row. I know that will mean someone on the bench loses their spot (most likely Sips unfortunately because Cust at least gives us a backline/halves/hooker cover) but in the long run I think we would benefit from it.

One of those set restarts was right at the end of the half. Jake deliberately held on to wind the clock down so they would only have 1 more tackle at us instead of 3. It was sensible play that most of the others wouldn't have thought of
That one at the end of the half was obvious. It's the ones where the tackle is obviously over, the line appears set, but he still holds on for a good 5 seconds too long.

I get the thread but often feel Jake is hard done by.
His defence is textbook legs stuff and basically soon as he drops the player to the ground, the ref is screaming "Jake get off"
Yet these other defenders who use hands and wrestle and dance in the tackle, get far more time and latitude before releasing....it's almost a reward for poor tackling technique as opposed to Jakes perfect tackling technique being punished

I think Des used to get Jamie Buhrer to do it back in the day. Get a cleanskin tackling machine to push the envelope, buy time for the defence

Great comment and so friggen true.

Teams like the Storm hold players up in D and rewarded with slow play the balls so their D line can get back. In reality they should be penalised for holding up play.

It was confusing against the tigers as their hooker was also called Jake.

the ref was calling Jake a lot as well and I was wtf...we're in attack! (lol).

So maybe it's a ref v jake thing. It's bloody annoying.

That said... I agree that as soon as Jake looks like tackling, the refs start screaming like startled sheep.... but also there are many times where Jake is just super glued (or gorilla gripped) to the tackled player and wont let go.

Why does Jake give such gee up speeches pre-game and at halftime and then go on to give away stupid penalties off the play and in the ruck.

He gives away so many set restarts which negates the value of his passion.

When is he going to improve his leadership with better personal discipline in his game.
He was lucky not to be binned in sundays game. If he was, then it could have been a different game

You guys do realise that he gives them away on purpose?! The amount of potential tries that are saved as a result...he is a very smart footballer and knows when it needs to be done to avoid a quick play-the-ball. A lot of players are doing it now because the speed of the game is such that it is paramount to stopping potential try scoring opportunities for the opposition.

Jake does what all the great leaders do and that is to lead by example and give it his all every second of play
and that to me makes up for the few penalties he gives away

How ****ed was playing advantage for four tackles then calling it back though

Has no place in league
This is verry Rah Rah I agree. I am not so sure of the extended avantage rule in Rugba Leeegue. The tackles break up the momentum and you forget the original play unlike union where it seems more connected to the previous play when advantage is played from.

Jake has been doing this for years before the game sped up and the shirt pull of 2019 so I don't buy that one.

I do agree he is a smart footballer and is probably coached to do it as no one can hate Jakey! It was his timing off his indescretions on the weekend when we were 0-6 after 30 minutes that gave me the Sh*ts.

Seriously guys give the guy a break - the team was cr@p for the first 4 weeks. From the sounds of it you lot would be asking to drop Jake if we we 6 & 1. Seriously guys don't go looking for problems that ain't problems, lets just focus on what's good at the moment and that is we are winning!
