Is a good loss a thing?

How do we get Turbo at his best against the top tier teams? I haven’t seen him perform against a top team on their game, yet (YET)… but something needs to develop/change.

He was pretty good tonight. He will not the same space with Storm or Patnthers as he gets vs Knights or Tigers, silly to think its even possible.

The top sides will always be able to negate his attack to some degree, just like they do vs Teddy or Latrell or Cleary. Its what makes them the top sides.

We should have shut down Teddy early in tonights game.

What an awful team.

Radley, JWH grubs
Leniu and Tedesco with racial slurs

And where do i start on Jennings?

Then you got the blokes that like rugby more with Manu, Suuali and Creighton all going or have threatened to go to the rah rahs..

No wonder Sam Walker wants to test the market.

So how does he go through that game tonight without a single try or try assist? Do we just blame the cattle around him again like the 2021 finals against quality opposition? And granted, I acknowledge we had some major setbacks and challenges tonight with injuries… nevertheless, it would be nice to see him step up and carry his team over the line against a quality opposition for a change.

And just quietly, I’m trying to see what he actually did tonight that was good. Yes, he made plenty of run meters. Are we happy with just that when we are playing a top team and looking towards our superstars to shine?

All season he has had Koula, Talau, Hoppa, Saab and Garrick around him. Tonight he had one of them.

As you said he had 25 runs for 210 metres, Impressive numbers, which more indicate his effort, really top notch.

But he was not as devastating as he was vs Knights (without Best and Gagai) or Titans. But Radley and Creighton and Suuali and Jennings were all over him, they 4 impressive footballers and 3 of them at the top of their game.

I think he is actually better suited vs Storm than vs Panthers or Roosters. A bit more space is what he needs to set up those speedsters around him, when they are on the field.

After 20 minutes I was about to ask @Jethro if I could attend the dark thread.
Seibold was blunt in saying we missed the start physically, 2nd time in 2 weeks.
But given I thought we were heading for a 50 point thrashing it was at least some consolation that the players busted their boilers trying to fight back.
In the end we only lost by the traditional method of a bloody Chook forward pass, that 1st try.

I would also add that even with most of those players around him throughout the early season he was pretty ordinary.

I agree, he does seem to look a bit better against a Storm, but I still have nightmares about his 2021 final performance against them when we were bundled out and he was blunted.

And at least he come through tonight fit, well it appreared that way.

A week off then he can terrorise the Raiders, Warriors and Tigers the next 3 weeks.

I was surprised to see Simpkin relegated to 29 minutes (?)… but Gordie did step up tonight. I watched him wrestle some big beast to the ground in the second half by himself and I was nodding my head in approval.
Simpkin went off injured…. Aloiai got injured. Garrick & Saab off injured….its why we were able to activate our 18th man!!

Brave effort tonight but also a little predictable. Our starts in big games against big teams always seems slow. We are invariably blown off the park. Our big names aside from DCE rarely play their best in a manly jumper when the heats on. I should stress big games AWAY from brookie. The good sides just shut us down. Our place in the top 8 should be a given but we have burnt at least 4 points with putrid losses. It could easily be another wasted year especially as this side can play. It’s our fault, we no certainty to be anywhere near the 8. We are only another lazy game from 10th. Do we seriously think this side has consistency in its dna. Hope I’m wrong but I’ve seen this story before
Exactly right. This team is soft when the going gets tough against good teams. Those stupid losses of winnable games against Canberra-Dolphins-Brisbane will come back to bite us because we are not good enough to push toward the top 4 because are simply are not good enough.

I was under no illusions after those wins against two minnow sides.

We are lower top 8 first week fish food.

Melbourne don’t roll out these $hit excuses. They build systems and believe in players to play their role. That’s the difference.

We get all happy about a near win on the back of 3 intercept passes from a nervous self-imploding Rorters team. Meanwhile, Storm go rolling on season after season after season….
I see your No excuses Perspective feathered friend
Excuses are never made by winners
Resilient wins and over coming adversity is what Really defines Greatness

We were blown off the park early in the game with our full repertoire
Then the Roosters self destructed with poor ball control bombing tries and gifting 3 intercept tries and countless Manly try scoring opportunities near their try line
We had the opportunity to capitalize and win the game and moved up the ladder but it was not meant to be

Last but not least
Show me a Good loser and I will show you a loser
No one gets rewarded with 2 points and moves up the ladder by losing
Losing Sucks

The first roosters try where he didn’t even bother chasing / running to cover in d was one or the worst non efforts I’ve seen. He has this really weird tendency to give up if it’s not coming easy for him unlike a Tedesco who is constantly competing.

Maybe watching on TV and the commentators narratives have fooled a few people. We were soundly beaten and if Keary stopped trying to torch our edges, we’d have lost by 20. Three tries from intercepts made it look like we were in the fight. We weren’t. They just stopped respecting us and did some dumb things. Our attack never looked like troubling them during a period where we had all the possession. They ran harder and tackled harder all night and we struggled to get any momentum in the ruck.

I am not bagging the team because they did fight and as mentioned, that’s noble, but noble doesn’t win games and I’m just giving my opinion that the Roosters looked a side that’s way beyond us when the whips start cracking.
