I wonder if DCE is the man?

Would swap a DCE / Crocker combo for a Carney / Hastings combo in a heart beat then you'd just have to decide where to spend the additional Mil we'd have freed up on strengthening the side.

DCE seems to have an issue with everyone, the qld'ers certianly think he's toxic.

Why do you care what qld'ers think, you should KNOW everything, you're God.

You jump to too many conclusions with no proof, (like MANY here)more like a grasshopper than a deity.

I'm with you on the Carney bit though.@:)

No point in crying over spilt milk, Hastings is as good as gone and we need to deal with it. Okay we are a back up half short with very little money to spend. What about bringing Cade Cust up from the lower grades? Plenty of top spots available and I reckon the kid could be worth a shot.

The problem we have now with Hastings literally on the outer with no key to get back in.....is that we have one first grade half at the club and that is it.

Croker is playing first grade, but he is not up to first grade standard.

Tom Wright isn't ready for first grade, and besides that although he is currently playing 5/8 for Blacktown, the club see's his future in the centres. But he couldn't be any worse than Croker could he? At least he can run.....

Neither Metcalf nor Cust are ready for first grade.

Who does that leave? Dylan Walker? No thanks, been there, done that, failed. Brian Kelly? Possibility when Jorge comes back with Parker in the centres, but that is a long shot at best. Tom Trbojevic? No. While he had a bad day on Sunday so did just about everyone else in a maroon and white jumper and maroon shorts. Besides regardless I do think his best position is fullback.

The sad reality is that with Hastings seemingly having dug his own grave, we're going to be stuck with Lachlan Croker at 5/8 for the foreseeable future. Not good but its all we're left with really unless we can sign someone before 30 June.....and from what I am hearing not many are interested in coming here right now such is the environment surrounding the club.

The problem isn’t DCE. He’s a good player.

The problem has come from over-investing in a single player. It means you then are forced to under-invest elsewhere.

Green leaving and salary cap sanctions are proof of this imbalance. Our ‘ten million dollar man’ has done well for himself but it hasn’t done well for the club and it’s not his fault. It’s the owners fault not to have faith in developing unknowns (which ironically they are now forced to do with Croker).

I don't blame Cherry for the size of his contract, he's just the beneficiary and that sort of security is something that most players dream of. I blame the events leading up to it (we all know the story so not going to rehash it here) and his manager who knowing we were over a barrel potentially losing both Cherry AND Foran, milked it for all it was worth.

But yes, the reality is that for the duration of his contract we are somewhat hamstrung with regards to our salary cap position, made worse by the fact that right now we are being forced by the NRL to operate at around $660k less than everyone else.

Its something we're just going to have to live with unless someone can convince him (or he decides to himself which is unlikely) to take a pay cut for the greater good.

Oh God ..

Is he the man? Mate, best player on the team by far. Without him last year we would of win only half our matches. He is not the problem, he is surrounded by some really good players and a whole host of rookies and park footballers. How many players are on a million dollars these days anyway? Storm had 3 last year and won the comp. Look at Thurston this year, very very avg in a star studded side

He left us for money and he came back to us for money. Anything he does in the game is incidental to getting paid, that's why he's a leper.

He is not a leader and has not a lot of capacity to think beyond himself.

Judging by how south the health and quality of the said players that were let go (Foran, Choc, Gifty etc) we made the right choice. Don’t know how Toovey fits in with being pushed out as he cut Gifty & Choc?

In the end it’s Hastings, not a Trbojevic, Taupau etc so i don’t understand the panic buttons being pushed by everyone? I thought he was just dropped to Blacktown so he is still registered in the 30? He might one day reach his potential that the club still sees but if he is openly criticising the captain and other established players in front of the playing group then he deserves to be pushed out of FG and the club. He might well be right in saying some home truths but that’s not the way to go about it and he has prior form so it’s not our players being soft.

The club tried to help the guy but there is only so much you can do for someone but unless they want to help themselves then it’s a lost cause.

We need a 5/8 and most of us know he could have been the answer but not for us. Will probably be at the Dogs and wouldn’t surprise me he went too far on purpose as his manager, Sam Ayoub (typical), might have another FG starter offer and needs him to be released from his contract.

Life goes on, we are stuck with what we have because of the Salary Cap issue so we have to fill gaps and find a way to win with the current squad.

Not shattered at all as he didn’t have offers piled up in front of him when Roosters cut him and screwed his opportunity here so good luck to him.

we know what kind of player DCE is
he does what he does very well
check it out
https://www.foxsports.com.au/nrl/nrl-premiership/stats/players?sortBy=tries&position=halfback
most tries for halfback
well down on try assists
86% goalkicking
number 2 in runs made
number 1 in run metres
equal third line breaks
number 1 tackle busts
well down in tackles this year (curious whether his 2nd row has been lightening his load here)

for all intents and purposes he's a running 5/8. he's made some glorious busts up the middle this year - his running game has been superb.
if we apply the same yardstick to shaun johnson you'd all be calling for his head as well.
shaun johnson wins games off a competitive forward pack, when he has the space to do so
neither are a cool calm collected cooper cronk
either of them are 10x the natural footballers that cronk is

give the guy a break. you don't buy a racehorse then get angry cos it's not a mule

We backed the wrong horse. However damage was done once he forced out gifty the culture was shot. Never seen a million dollar player need a 6 to hold his hand.
He had it easy pass it to snake, Matai or lyon while watching choc go forward on one leg broken rib.
Suggest you watch a few old games of the Cowboys then, Thurston was struggling until he got a second half in Morgan.

As to the ten million dollar man comment, what do you think these players are on?

Smith
Cronk
Thurston
Tedesco

And a lot more who were part of the recent “ big trade year”.

As the salary cap goes up a million will be standard for very good 1/6/7/9 players.

Don’t forget Taumalolo.. Multi year $1M+ contract. We might be a basket case atm but the Cowboys have their full team including Scott and Thurston back and can’t buy a win atm.

At the time he was close to the first million dollar man ( although prior to that Lockyer, Smith, Thurston would have been on more) but now it’s about average for a superstar of the game.

Fwhen cash is talkd about. Something that stood out recently to me on the matty johns show. In the interview with fletch/ hindy. They asked him if he would do something silly at manly

He said he would as long as they paid for him and a few mates to get on it first.

It sounds ok as i write it but when i saw it i felt like he was looking for anything he could get for free.

For me it painted a picture reflected in many comments above

As much as I hate Smith,Cronk, Thurston, Dce is not even in the same breath as these guys. Dumbfounded people would try to compare, 2 will be immortals. DCE has 6 good games a year and needs a 5/8th to hold his balls cause they disappear when things get tough. Can’t run a chook raffle let alone a team.

And I don’t give a fuc$ how is contract came about, fact is it’s utter madness he got a 10yr contract, full fuc$ing stop. God knows how this guy will play in his mid 30s!!!!!!!

And do you honestly believe he would ever consider that @HoldenV8 ? No way in the world...
