This all seems a bit melodramatic based on a calf strain where he'll like miss one game
Frustrating. The concern is overstated, but then he has had a 'great off season training' 'never been fitter' and played half a game, with zero run metres. And a history of calf injuries.
Should be the next great Manly talent, but has not played a full game in his chosen position.

I'd have my money on Johns based on experience + the fact I reckon Weekes would be a super number 14 to play multiple impact positions just while he's finding his feet in first grade off bench after the early heat comes out of the game .

But who knows how Seibold thinks.

Johns would have been $1.01 last year.

Mentioned elsewhere , Johns to start but once the game opens up a bit , Weekes a good option there . Perhaps if it was not a season opener and a bit of added pressure there for results , Weekes could well have gotten the nod for the run on 6 . Would really like Weekes to start , just naturally based on ability and the game changing factor but the steadying influence for a season opening game again most likely Johns initially .Hopefully not a repetition of the Tom Wright saga , Weekes must be given every opportunity to hold down a i st grade spot

can't believe it, here we go again. Does Knowells in Philly do calf's as well. Maybe he should of gone with Tommy and got it sorted while it was still the pre-season.

Some players or athletes just seem to need some individual specialist type of game or even training preparation particularly in the stretching department . Not saying it is an assured panacea but particularly in regards to hammies and calfs and if it is not chronic or at a serious problem stage , can play a beneficial role .

I can remember lots of people bagging Foz for being broken down. Missed a couple with a broken hand but that was about it.

Oh well he ain’t coming back and we’ve moved along.

Hope Shoey gets back on the paddock soon.

The sad part about this, is the fact Schu was carrying extra baggage around the core area, which adds much strain on joints including ankles, Knee, achilles, calves and give injuries far more opportunity for injuries to occur.
I have seen the effort Schu has put in off season to reduce this risk and be in peak condition for 2023 and yet this injury has reoccured.
Hopefully just a bit of bad luck.
Personally I find the best strengthening for lower legs is not weights, but sand running, beach sprints ect....anyway's I hope the conditioning team can work it out, as he is a Super important player we need to be firing if a real shot at beating the Top teams.

maybe calf strains can be ridiculous though, but thats more at my age. I tore my calf about 4 yeas ago, took forever to heal and it re-tears every year
For Schuster, it has to be a strain of the calf muscle itself (for him to be available in round 3) - a tear in the calf muscle would take much longer to heal.

If it was damage to ligaments / tendons associated with the calf muscle - which is what may be happening with you, @Dan - these things take much longer to heal. Here's why - it's a blood supply issue:

I just read an article that mentioned it was a torn ligament. Don’t know how accurate that is though.

Probably not accurate - from the club: "With the Sea Eagles having a bye in round two, Schuster should be available for the round three match against Parramatta Eels at 4 Pines Park."

If it were a torn ligament, Schuster would be gone for up to 6 months, rather than 2 weeks.

Good to hear he is back soon, sounds minor and just a small bad luck; possibly also the Club is being extra-cautious in treatment given we have the luxury of the emergence of Cooper Johns?
