None of them are wingers. You can't just throw anyone there. Its a specialised position and positioning is very important. I have seen them all move in off their wing and even in cup level and their defence is ordinary as well. "Eeny, meeny, miny, moe"

^ Yep, it's not Hiku, just like it wasn't the Wolfman. It's not Lyon either - there's a problem with the whole left side. It ends up forcing the winger to come in and making him look bad, but most of the time it happens it's because someone on the inside has missed his defensive assignment.

The common denominator between Wolfy, Taufua, Blair, & Hiku is the coaching, : or lack of specialist attention by the coaching team.

Communication is the key, he needs to yell out to get them to slide down and the winger always marks his man and needs to stay on his wing in defence and not move in

So is it safe to say it is not fair / reactionary to blame hiku?

Sure, you can blame the inside men for rushing in, but when the ball can be put through the hands, rather than needing to be "cut out", you can say with some confidence that Hiku has missed his assignment. He is leaving his run too late. If you are going to rush in, you have to do it quickly and with commitment. The way the game is played these days, I don't really think hitting in is that successful anyway. With the wrestle being as prominent as it is, I think sliding is probably a better option, because the ruck is so slow, you can afford to slide, but you must push up first.

I think Jamie is drawn inwards because he feels a few players aren't aiming up when it comes to goal line defence...the loss of Ballin, Buhrer, and Glenn only compounds the problem.

Our compressed defence was king for the past 5 years, best in the comp.

Other coaches have now worked out how to beat it. Look at how the souths winger and centre lined up. They were actually quite close together, so our defenders were too. The difference was the 45 degree angle the winger ran on to a pass that was past hiku. They passed and ran into space on an angle.

This happened to bozo too, coaches worked him out. Tooves needs to change it up.
