Mate get better soon…..Manly needs you. Silvertails need you!Little bit of an update as it’s been 2 months since my operation.
Going pretty well , still very limited as to what I can do ( as in lifting or heavy physical activity ) but that will change after the 3 months period.
Having a few incontinence issues , which sadly is part of this huge operation ( they literally disconnect your bladder , move it to the side , operate to remove the Prostate and then pull it back in and reconnect) and not having a Prostate means you have to retrain your system to adjust for not having a “ float “ that moves up and down to stem the flow. You’ll laugh but just like mums who have just had a baby I have to do a pelvic floor exercise regime , morning and night.
My 3 month anniversary is also when I do my first blood test, the PSA should be zero , if it is I’m well on the way to cancer free and the good news is the Dr was very very confident that the cancer was totally within the Prostate and not yet in the walls surrounding it, so yes my fingers are crossed in a big way and hoping for good not bad news.
So being positive we’ve planned a caravan trip to Victoria as we haven’t seen our daughter , our Rabbitohs loving son in law , and two grandkids since September 2019, we leave at the end of February right after I have the blood test and get the results and we’ll by next back until the end of April.
So in the extra good news it seems Manly always win when we are on the road so in addition to being away for the first two months of the season I’m also planning another caravan journey doing some outback tracks in SA & western QLD in late June ti the end of July.
So I’m expecting a HUGE season from the boys due to this, as I’ll be away almost the whole season .
The bad news , well the theory is a good one BUT doesn’t always work.
Go Manly

One of the greatest ever Sea Eagles !!Lyon to me personifies what being a Manly player is all about, tough, with a never say die attitude.
The try he scored in the last 15min in the 2011 GF, and us under the pump. The image of him being hauled up by team mates on the try line after he scored, will be with me always. One of the greatest ever Sea Eagles !!
Condolences on your loss , sad that some illnesses can be so cruel sometimes and sure that he fought hard . Good advice on precautionary measures , guess that it can never be repetitive enough .In August 2018 my father complained of a sore hip. He went to his GP and after tests, they found that secondary bone cancer had eaten his hip bone away until it broke. The primary cancer was Prostate Cancer. He fought this quite well until the middle of last year when it spread to his lungs, adrenal glands, Liver and finally his brain. He became non responsive on Christmas eve and passed on 27 December 2021.
All men need to take this very seriously, I wouldn't wish on anyone what he had to endure.
I empathize and sympathize for you on your initial shock of finding out the bad news and then going through the ups and downs and high and lows of watching your Dad in pain and in struggle trying to hold on to his dear life and eventually losing his courageous battle .In August 2018 my father complained of a sore hip. Thank you for keeping us up to date with your progressWent to the Dr for a post operative session yesterday, I won’t know until I have my blood test after three months but he’s warned me that I may need radiation as a follow up as “ for a man your age Mark your Prostate was very diseased and we fear it may have got into the walls surrounding the gland “ were the words he used.
I’ll remain positive, it’s all you can do.
Fingers crossed for a good report at the end of February ( Telehealth results booked for 4th March ).
I mentioned before Mark I just finished 20 prostate radiation treatments, all pretty easy except for peeing every 2/3hrs through the night, but apparently that will ease when the prostate swelling goes down, I understand your in a different situation to myself as my cancer was only minimal compared to yours. As you say, keep positive and the advances in radiation treatment today are incredible.Went to the Dr for a post operative session yesterday, I won’t know until I have my blood test after three months but he’s warned me that I may need radiation as a follow up as “ for a man your age Mark your Prostate was very diseased and we fear it may have got into the walls surrounding the gland “ were the words he used.

Oh Mark, sorry to hear it's not as smooth sailing as we all hoped but it sounds like you are in very attentive and learned hands.
