I posted this thread when a mate of mine told me that the rumor is Jake will be our goal kicker in 2018.. This is the same friend that told me that Mr Plod was texting players that he is leaving the club late last season.. He was correct on that issue.

Let see what happens Rnd 1 or possibly tomorrow night.

Sounds good to me As I said in another thread, a 90% strike rate can't and shouldn't be ignored, especially when we haven't had a goalkicker as accurate as that for years. Yes it will be interesting to see who kicks in the trial.
Wright's attempt last week was abysmal, whereas at least Hasting's attempt only just missed.

He missed, it is one of those time lapse type photos and you can clearly see where the ball ended up. Absolute shocker, only going 10m.

How?

5 tries a piece is even in my books. Hard to see how we would have won if both teams had even goal kicking.

Although we may not have scored 5 tries of we carried a specialist goal kicker who was not as good as the best 17 that were picked. 28-24 in a 5 tries to 4 loss with a better goal kicker could easily have been the result.

I'd say 5 converted tries a piece is even. But in reality it was a psychological win for us.. Everyone is writing us off and we outscored them whilst their billion dollar recruits gronk and tobasco were on. So I'm very pleased.

Also its worth noting that Hastings kicked 6/6 in the Intrust trial today...

How for sure. That goal kicker wasn't in our best 17 so they may have let in an extra try

Hastings had a wonderful game - looked a class above the opposition and his goal kicking inspired me with confidence every time. Great action and looks like a natural kicker rather than a manufactured one to fill a need.

I'm just a "keyboard warrior," but I was at the game last night and hope Hastings gets the nod at 5/8 for the opening round. I have no idea about the dynamics of our team and how he'd fits/does not fit in personality wise, but if we're looking for a confident young player who can kick well in general play and kick goals with ease he's got to be in the mix.
