General NRL chat

Fake, all that **** website does is post the same 'article' about all diff sports.

There'll be like 8 "this player banned..." blah blah
Isn’t there some sort of laws that guard against scandalous accusations like this?
If it was just some bloke going off a cpl times a season I could understand. But if/as you say GE the website posts the same article about all different sports, surely the website should be shut down.

Somewhere in North Sydney is a very drunk Greg Florimo screaming at passing motorists.
" I fuggin told yerrrs, we’re back baby’’.

Be very happy if this game happens.

The Western Bears will wear the old North Sydney colours, according to 7NEWS Sydney’s Andrew McKinlay, and could play at least one token home game at their spiritual home in New South Wales, which would likely be against arch rivals Manly.

Flo withdrawing cash to put on a 2027 premiers futures bet.

Val Holmes to the Queens, 3yrs.
I can't understand this. According to reports he's on $1.15m next year for the 'Boys. Yet he's going to Illawarra for $850,000 p.a. Why?
His wife has successful businesses in Townsville so she won't be happy.
Illawarra is less likely to win a premiership than the 'Boys.
His salary is $315,000 less (if reports are correct).
It doesn't make sense, and because there is no transparency with the Salary Cap it encourages fans like me to think there is something dodgy about this trade.

Maybe Cows are chipping in with a bit of freight money. But yeah, that's a lot of coin to give up.

I don't know what to make of the Dog resurgence this season. As of now they have conceded LEAST points of any team, after being by far the worst in 2023.

Is Ciraldo a genius? Their off-season recruitment was unconventional, with so many utilities, but it's paid off bigtime. They are now a contender.

This dramatic improvement is beyond the norm, at least in my memory of the comp. (Roosters about 15 or so years ago had a dramatic rise, but they were a club that had been bouncing between top 4, spoon, GF, they had a core of successful players and were a top side that had a couple of dud years so not really comparable).

Dogs have had some luck with the 6 again favouring more mobile less weighty packs.

Money wins premiership. For example Curren was a great get at the start of the season. We wanted him. But the Manly mediocrity call it Penn $ didn't get it done. That's the difference.

The dogs defence as a team has improved better than any other this year.

It's the type of instantly noticeable with one on one tackles you seen when Bozo took over from Lowe.

It's the dogs defence, which is why I give em a real chance of winning the comp this year. That and there game style is made for finals. They have been grinding teams for a couple of months now. So well practiced for the finals crunch

Manlys flashy all out attack, well isn't always percentage footy. Against better teams, we might never get that pill back for 20 mins or more.

We have improved this year under Seibolds. No doubt about that.

But our defence out wide especially it currently just isn't anywhere near premiership material.

Train harder boys. And Scotty premiership cost more $.

I was looking at try location stats the other day and the Dogs have conceded similar amounts of tries to other half decent teams on their edges. The real outlier is they have only conceded 6 tries in the middle, less than half as many as the next best team. Not sure exactly why but I'm guessing their smaller more mobile pack is very good at getting back onside with numbers and spacing exactly where they should be.

Wonder if the mobility of their pack and getting back quickly in position means they don't give up all those killer 6-agains that hurt other teams (including Manly).
That stat is odd in a way as you'd think a smaller pack would struggle to hold out a bombardment by big boppers if they had to defend on their own line for any amount of time. Maybe?

The dogs play the game at a very fast rate hitting the edge of the ruck and shifting the ball out wide to gain ground out of the red zone This moves the bigger opposition packs around all game which saps their energy. We have been similar in recent weeks.

No doubt Canterbury have improved significantly but I think they've had a favourable draw and people are getting a bit carried away with them, similar to the Warriors last year. Look at their record this year against the other top 8 teams:

Storm - played only once, lost 14-16
Penrith - played only once, lost 10-16 with Cleary limping off before HT
Roosters - played twice, won 30-26 after leading 26-0 at HT with Dom Young sent off, lost 8-26 in the other game
Sharks - played twice, lost 6-25 and won 15-14 in golden point
Manly - haven't played us yet
Cowboys - played once and lost 18-20
Dragons - won both but clearly the worst side in the 8

On the other hand we have a win against all of those sides this year, bar the Dogs themselves and the Sharks as for some reason we don't play either until the last 2 rounds of the year. Yet I barely hear a peep about us being premiership contenders like I've been hearing about the Dogs the last few weeks for beating heavyweights like the Raiders, Dragons and Dolphins.

Next week against them will be very telling for both sides, obviously need to get the job done against Tigers this week but looking forward to the chance to (hopefully) put the Dogs in their place
