NRL Sea Eagles:Rugby League

STAR five-eighth Kieran Foran says the Sea Eagles are currently better placed than they were at the corresponding period last year, as they prepare for the 2013 season.
He made the observation as the Manly squad prepared to head off for their Christmas break after a torrid six-week training block.
"It's been physically very hard but I think that is what the guys wanted here," Foran told the Manly Daily after a heavy session at the club's Narrabeen headquarters.
"Everyone seems to be in really good shape and things have come together nicely."
Last year's preparations began with the guns still smoking after the civil war involving the bitter departure of coach Des Hasler.
The massive disruptions gave Hasler's replacement Geoff Toovey the toughest coaching job in the NRL.
"Everything's just a lot more settled now," Foran said.
"I think everyone was aware of the dramas that were going on.
"It didn't give Toovs and his coaching staff time to set out how they wanted to approach things and do what they wanted to do."
But Foran said this year there was a whole new feel in the place.
"We know what we are doing, it's not rushed and feels like Toovs and the guys are putting their spin on things."
Foran said in some ways it was a case of starting all over again given the number of new faces signed for the 2013 campaign.
"But everyone had caught on to it very quickly," Foran said.
"It gives us a lot more depth than we normally have had to cover the key guys in the forwards and the backs if they do go down," he said.
"It's comforting to know we do have players who are capable of stepping in and doing just as good a job."
Toovey said the players have worked really hard, particularly in the gym.
"And the new blokes are going really well," Toovey said.
"We'll get some more combinations going after Christmas."

IT'S JUMPING JOEY
RUGBY league Immortal Andrew Johns has wasted no time making an impact at the Sea Eagles.
Five-eighth Kieran Foran said Johns' arrival on the coaching staff had been a positive and he has been working hard on the kicking games of himself and halfback Daly Cherry-Evans.
"He's been really good for everyone, I think," Foran said. "We're getting a lot out of the sessions we are doing with him."
PUBLICITY WINDFALL
THE brouhaha surrounding suggestions that Manly-Warringah would change its name to the Kaspersky Sea Eagles did not upset everyone associated with the club.
In fact, there were some people who were left with big smiles on their faces.
Blindside understands Kaspersky representatives were delighted with the free publicity and the reminder that the company is the club's major sponsor.
