16 witnesses LOL police duds at its bestManly NRL star Dylan Walker: Police set to call 16 witnesses in alleged pizza shop assault case
A Sea Eagles star is denying assault charges after being arrested at his local pizzeria, but police have lined up 16 prosecution witnesses for the court case.
Prosecutors are set to call 16 witnesses in the court case against Manly NRL star Dylan Walker for allegedly assaulting staff at his local pizza parlour, Manly Local Court heard on Wednesday.
Walker, 26, has pleaded not guilty to two counts of common assault following the incident at the Little Italy eatery at Narraweena on November 1 last year.
The hearing, to take place at the Downing Centre Local Court in Sydney, will take at least two days to complete, Manly Local Court was told.
There will be three witnesses for the defence.
In November, Walker told Manly Court that he would fight his assault charges after being arrested over an alleged altercation with two men when he went to pick up a pepperoni pizza, near his home, for a Sunday evening meal.
Police allege in court documents the Manly Sea Eagles five-eighth assaulted Stephen and Enzo Melani between 8.35pm and 8.50pm.
Officers have alleged Walker collected the pizza from the Little Italy Pizzeria on May Rd before he tried to open the door of a car parked outside which belonged to a woman associated with the restaurant and a physical confrontation erupted.
“Police have been told that a man left the restaurant and attempted to enter the vehicle of a woman unknown to him parked outside the restaurant,” police said in a statement.
“When confronted the man allegedly became aggressive and was allegedly involved in a physical altercation, assaulting two men before fleeing.”
The pepperoni pizza was left uneaten on the road after the alleged incident.
As part of his strict bail conditions, Walker is forbidden from entering Little Italy or going within 50 metres of the restaurant, the documents state.
He also must not be intoxicated by alcohol or illicit drugs while in a public place.
A date for the two-day hearing will be set at the Downing Centre Local Court on January 20.
