That is what used to kill us. Piggy back penalties for ill discipline
Obviously something has changed in relation to how this team carries out the coaching instructions.
And yes, they are much, much fitter.
Reminded me of the defensive displays circa 2007 - 2011
The effort was A+
I was never one to knock the previous coaches or trainers but it’s pretty obvious we are a much, much fitter team now. Coupled with some good defensive structures that you would assume are thanks to Don and Des. We just need to get the ball to our centres so they are one on one a little more. It just seems we don’t give the backs enough room hitting the line hard and isolating players.
I would love to see Suli in full flight one on one with his oposite number.

Why is everyone blaming the refs? We lost by 2 points. Both their tries off kicks the second an unlucky bounce.

The refs were not that bad, at one stage it was 6-0 penalties to Manly in that second half and they did not award st George any piggy back penalties getting out of their own end.

I think our discipline getting off the ruck is so much better this year. Definitely a lot fitter and stronger
That's all well and good but I'm upset at the Ref taking away the opportunity of Manly determining the final score

The fact that we could have messed it up with the next play is besides the point.

Manly should be fired up for Sunday at Brookie

I agree, that was a shocker

One of the biggest moments late in the game was when Api ran from dummy half on the last and failed to get Chez quick ball for a kick. As a result, DCE had to put boot to ball in a grubber and it just broke down.

Poor awareness from Api.

Am warming to the fact that Fainu (if he is capable of playing 80) should be Manlys no. 1 dummy half. Possibly, someone like Gosie could give Fainu a spell if required and Api drops out.

Fainu seems to scoop the ball and have the markers commited before they've even realised. Alternatively, API sometimes isn't even looking at the ball when it's being played and he seems like he's then rushed.
Having make shift hookers is a bad idea, its a specialist position. Gogetski at hooker would be terrible. Api is still a great player, took the wrong decision last night on that play but he made some great tackles around the ruck and some great runs out if dummy half when we were getting pumped.

I really like having both in the 17

I am not going to bury the guy, but he had a poor game.

Although for the last 15 minutes I could have sworn that the Dragons were only back 8 metres, or taking off early, or both. When they were consistently tackling our first receiver as soon as they caught the ball, surely they had to have been offside. That, or they had the quickest pack in history.

Yeah .their hooker was steamtraining in all nite and then hunt started doin it last 10 minutes or so. Was painful seein us pinned in our 20 so much in the last 10.

Anyone know why Sipley was only on for first 20 min. 26 meters and 11 tackles. Damn losing AFB was so costly. His charges would've made a huge difference. He's got to fix his discipline. Can't afford players sitting on sideline like that.

I see that Illawarra players are claiming that the 'escort' was legal because the escorter/blocker was stationery in front of the catcher.
Can't wait until they get penalised next time they try it.

Hahahha you could see them all respond as gently as they could. It’s as blatant to see that they agree deep down as it was a blatant penalty.

I just watched Annesley's explanation as to why the video ref interfered in the so-called trip that favoured Illawarra, yet not in the obvious illegal blocking that disadvantaged Manly.
What a load of bollocks!
He said the first instance "met the criteria... was on the borderline... but it could have resulted in a penalty try to Illawarra". No mention of the fact that Jorge took the ball cleanly and was 20 metres up field before the Vidiot interfered.
Why the Vidiot didn't interfere for the blocking incident was because the Illawarra player "had caught the ball cleanly"....
But, hey, so had Jorge!
Bloody frustrating.

That is frustrating.

When he came out, put his hand up and said he got it wrong I thought he'd do the same with the issues you mentioned above, or at least wouldn't just b/s his way through a reply.

But it seems like it's one apology per team per month perhaps.

I swear they think most of us rarely watch games and have no way of recording games and watching them again. Revisionist history forgetting that we can see the originals!
