Defending in this era is difficult since you can't set your line and you can't slow the play the ball down. The game is more about points and not so much defence these days unfortunately..

The Great George Washington also expressed the same view in 1799
in Footy it means the best way to defend is to go on the offensive. If you're attacking, then your opponent must defend and if they're defending, then they're not attacking. If they're not attacking, then whatever defense you have doesn't matter.
