Desperate times call for desperate measures. We'd let Api walk with the view to Fainu being the #1 hooker, then Manase goes and gets himself in the middle of a stabbing where he is the one accused of it, and suddenly we had no recognised dummy half.

Levi was literally all that was available who had first grade experience.

In our case, circumstances beyond the clubs control meant that begger's couldn't be chooser's. Unfortunately though, what it did even before the injuries hit was all but kill our 2020 before it even started. We've been living on a wind and a prayer almost all season.

You know, there was a reason that the Knights didn't fight too hard to keep Levi after they had signed Andrew McCullough and Jayden Brailey.
When the Tigers board can come up with or the very least,be involved with,an idea that sees a loan arrangement with the Storm to get Harry Grant to their club, you know your club/administration is sitting on their hands

It honestly baffles me how Danny Levi ever got picked to play test football for New Zealand and Samoa (he played 4 tests for the Kiwis in 2017, 1 for Samoa in 2019). To me his level of play would see him flat out just making the bench for the old City or Country Seconds, let alone something like test football.

He had huge raps on him as a youngster and if I recall correctly was picked to play for NZ pretty early in his career. I think the game passed him by early on, as he is a selfish player and I’m sure scored plenty of tries in the lower grades. He doesn’t offer any play making ability, out of 9 that is crucial these days. He is a tough bastard and gets through his work but seems to miss out on making the right play in the crucial moments.

Knights are paying the bulk of his contract and we didn't have a specialist hooker

Don’t get me wrong he has filled a void this season and we have been put in a tough position as we have our best 9 in his unusual situation. We should still be looking at better alternatives for 2021.

The sad thing is that Lachlan Croker has actually proved to be a smarter dummy half this year, probably helped by the fact that he's really a half by trade. The problem is that Croker's execution this year has been as bad as Levi's. Croker knows when to pass and where to pass, he just sucks at it.

Danny Levi has shown glimpses of being OK in 2020. Unfortunately those showings have been few and far between.

We all live in hope that Round 1 in 2021 will see Manase Fainu back in the Manly #9 jumper.

His court case has been pushed back to July, so unlikely. That is unless the NRL's 'Guilty until proven innocent', I mean 'No fault stand down' rule is retracted.

As I said before, the NRL would have egg all over it's face if De belin is found innocent, just imagine if they banned Curtis Scott for just having a nap and waving an arm arm to a cop and resisting arrest because he was asleep.

The no fault stand down policy was ill conceived by one of the poorest excuses for an administration in league history. It was one of many knee jerk reactions to issues that Greenturd and his money spending crew came up with.

It has been liberally applied with some players getting off scott free and others receiving very harsh punishments despite not yet being found guilty or not guilty in a court of law, and it has seriously cost some teams, most notably Manly and St George-Illawarra.

Maika Sivo indecent assault case has conveniently wafted off into the ether, the only explanation I can think of is that Eels did a good job manipulating a corrupt system.

We can't go into 2021 with him and Crocker as our number 9 options. We have to look outside the club. The Number 9 issue is one we have to fix. Fingers cross that Tom is fit next year but I am happy with Funa as the back up fullback. Now if only we could find a decent number 9 while the issue with Fainu is been sorted out.
Ask Scott Fulton he may know :):)

Yuck.. you just made me realise I would rather Andrew McCullough over the current starting Manly hooker..

That’s so 2020

IS Matt Ballin on our coaching team??

If not he should be, Levi is a (fair) bit off the mark and has been for a few seasons. Surely an off season with MB would sharpen his up.

I think the Sivo case was a storm in a teacup, he merely tugged at a waitress's skirt, perhaps improper, and perhaps serious by fijian standards, but hardly in Debelin league of accusations

Funny you should mention that. My 14 year old was telling me over dinner that he was watching season highlights of our 2008 season today (probably instead of concentrating on his school work), and he said “I have to say, they are one of the best NRL sides I’ve ever seen. Their passing was amazing!” I suggested this was largely due to Ballin’s direct, sharp delivery from dummy half... He really was exceptional. Did two out of three important things for a hooker very, very well - tackling and passing. Was a massive part of our success in that era.
