Premiership winning, SOO, international half that he is. And, he rarely misses a game or fails to back up. Champion player. That 2nd half against the Raiders, DCE owned it like the premiership winning half he is.
First im going to make it clear that dce’s been awesome this year and I wouldnt replace him with Reyno. He’s extremely underrated
The fact that some people say Reynolds is better than DCE is a FARCE...
Anyone who can speak like a normal human and isn’t “one of the boys” is so unfairly disliked by the community its a joke - so much for caring about mental health etc (although Daly is obviously fine now and a seasoned vet)
Daly is by far and away 2nd best 7 in the comp behind Cleary (who is 2nd best player in the comp in my opinion)
Cannot wait to see finals, I really think he is in the stage of his career, and the current form, to take a grip of the big games and dominate with his kicking and general play, like he has the last few weeks.
I agree with you for all parts except the “if I’m a starting club”. As a starting club you need someone who can attack - look at Broncos, they have no stars in 1 and 6.First im going to make it clear that dce’s been awesome this year and I wouldnt replace him with Reyno.
If im starting a club and expecting a bad squad I go for Reynolds to be the leading number 7. If I have a good quality team that needs a marquee man to chip in and really pull the opposition apart in key moments of big games I go for dce. Both have their similarities.
Reynolds is generally more calm headed and can be quite robotic and clinical with his kicking game. But he sometimes struggles to be more than a link man in attack. Dce on the other hand is more of a natural heads up footballer; eg. has better passing options, slight of hand and support play. The thing about dce and other reactive players (trbo, munster, fainu) is that at their best and most competitive they generally have another gear in them than players like reynolds do. On his day Dce can pull off a great kicking game like Reynolds, although can also pull off a sharp short ball or long cut out pass out of nowhere to make an important linebreak. Reynolds is more choreographed whereas on his day dce can pull a rabbit out of a hat.
Dce can also been seen making try saving tackles in the big games, and is generally a good leader. Very good for finals when he is confident and has his eyes on a prize.
Agreed, he had a really good year in 2019 as well but this has been his best season since 2014.His best season since 2011-2014
Our biggest mistake RE the DCE contract was not putting winning teams around him.The name says it all. DCE is the cherry on top halfback.
We nearly broke the bank to retain him because he is the sort of half that can make the difference and take a strong team to a premiership. The controversial contract was a statement that Manly didn't want to be mediocre or even merely a contender, we had serious designs on winning the premiership. Which obviously hasn't happened ... yet.!
DCE may not be the best nuts and bolts organiser to make a weak side into an average side, or maybe even make an average side into a strong side?
Although I can't think of too many that could do that. Johns. Thurston, although it took Thurston quite a few years.
Good point. Good perspective fathered friendOur biggest mistake RE the DCE contract was not putting winning teams around him.
I think they tried but it was always going to be hard when the changing of the guard coincided with his big pay packet. Our biggest mistake RE the DCE contract was not putting winning teams around him.
