Daly 2021

He’s extremely underrated
The fact that some people say Reynolds is better than DCE is a FARCE...

Anyone who can speak like a normal human and isn’t “one of the boys” is so unfairly disliked by the community its a joke - so much for caring about mental health etc (although Daly is obviously fine now and a seasoned vet)

Daly is by far and away 2nd best 7 in the comp behind Cleary (who is 2nd best player in the comp in my opinion)

Cannot wait to see finals, I really think he is in the stage of his career, and the current form, to take a grip of the big games and dominate with his kicking and general play, like he has the last few weeks.
First im going to make it clear that dce’s been awesome this year and I wouldnt replace him with Reyno.

If im starting a club and expecting a bad squad I go for Reynolds to be the leading number 7. If I have a good quality team that needs a marquee man to chip in and really pull the opposition apart in key moments of big games I go for dce. Both have their similarities.

Reynolds is generally more calm headed and can be quite robotic and clinical with his kicking game. But he sometimes struggles to be more than a link man in attack. Dce on the other hand is more of a natural heads up footballer; eg. has better passing options, slight of hand and support play. The thing about dce and other reactive players (trbo, munster, fainu) is that at their best and most competitive they generally have another gear in them than players like reynolds do. On his day Dce can pull off a great kicking game like Reynolds, although can also pull off a sharp short ball or long cut out pass out of nowhere to make an important linebreak. Reynolds is more choreographed whereas on his day dce can pull a rabbit out of a hat.

Dce can also been seen making try saving tackles in the big games, and is generally a good leader. Very good for finals when he is confident and has his eyes on a prize.

I agree with you for all parts except the “if I’m a starting club”. As a starting club you need someone who can attack - look at Broncos, they have no stars in 1 and 6.

Hopefully not the mocker on him but his nearly ten years have been impressive and quite injury free when you consider the 10 year contract of Buddy franklin that killed The Swans.

Sorry but the biggest point of difference in DCE's game is he's finally forgotten everything Trent Barrett said.
Obviously having Foran back has allowed him to revert to his original game style which was always very strong.

So many of the DCE haters forget that when Trent came in he made it a point that he was going to change DCE into a Thurston style player. IT DIDNT WORK.

Only now is he reverting back to what served him so well.

One of the benefits of signing DCE to a long term contract is we avoid the circus every two or three years of him being chased by rival clubs. Remember when he visited Cronulla and then Titans? The media were camped outside his home and it became a feeding frenzy. So happy that contract speculation has stopped.

The name says it all. DCE is the cherry on top halfback.
We nearly broke the bank to retain him because he is the sort of half that can make the difference and take a strong team to a premiership. The controversial contract was a statement that Manly didn't want to be mediocre or even merely a contender, we had serious designs on winning the premiership. Which obviously hasn't happened ... yet.!
DCE may not be the best nuts and bolts organiser to make a weak side into an average side, or maybe even make an average side into a strong side?
Although I can't think of too many that could do that. Johns. Thurston, although it took Thurston quite a few years.

It's clear as day that the times he has struggled are when he's been the only 'go to' man. He'd overplay his hand, come up with errors and we'd look a rabble. When he can pick his moments and rely on other players in the team (Foran and Tommy) to provide a threat, he really comes into his own.

He has the odd shortcoming but geez, when he is on, his highlight reels are special.

Our biggest mistake RE the DCE contract was not putting winning teams around him.

Good point. Good perspective fathered friend

The cowboys did not win a premiership with Thurston until they put a winning team around him

I think they tried but it was always going to be hard when the changing of the guard coincided with his big pay packet.

In the space of a couple of seasons, we lost Snake, Gifty, Matai, Lyon, Foran, Watmough, Kingy, Kitey, Ballin, and co. Sure, Melbourne have survived the loss of some big names but they had Bellamy as coach, not Barrett lol!

Also, we kinda went about buying a team and some of the recruitment was questionable...guys like Feleti Mateo came first and then the likes of Nate Myles. It's only now that we've got a decent coach and some youthful prospects that are passionate about the club (as opposed to washed up has beens) that we are finding success.
