Wow...I didn't know Albo, his fiance and Penny Wong posted on Silvertails.

I base my opinion on policies not media propaganda, like the majority in the US seem to have done. This is not about left or right wing nonsense that so many fall into. Its about examining the policy issues. What impacts on us all. I'm supportive of some elements of the Labor party, the Greens and the Libs, depending upon the issue. If all you can see is one perspective, you've been conditioned, just as those in the US have been, in selecting Trump or Russia has done in selecting Putin. Thank heavens we haven't madcap leaders like that. Albo is making mistakes in my opinion. Morrison made many mistakes in my opinion. But fortunately as one has indicated the centrist values of our society seem to be holding.

As regards Albo's decision to back the PNG venture, I'm concerned regarding the decision, a policy decision, given the chaos I've been informed about in our neighbour. I also feel its a counter to Chinese involvement more than enhancing the societal needs of PNG. In some sense I understand, but its a risky decision in my opinion. Australia has not been much of a positive influence on that land in the past. I would have gone for Perth first.

Not sure who exactly this is directed to... but for reasons posted earlier, I don't see this deal as a politically partisan issue as some people here think it is.

Given that there is an upcoming Federal Election, if the Coalition is convinced that this PNG NRL team proposal ($60 million per year for 10 years) is a pointless waste of taxpayer money, don't you think they'd be calling it out as such?

The only comments I have read from the federal opposition regarding this deal are:

"The government has offered to give us full detail, which we don't yet have," he (Peter Dutton) said.

"I'll wait until we get that detail before I make any comment in relation to that."

Still, Mr Dutton suggested the Coalition was comfortable with tying sports diplomacy to Australia's strategic objectives in the region.

"Our interests in the region are absolutely paramount, particularly in very difficult times, so I want to make sure we can work with near neighbours including in PNG to make sure there's a family first approach (to security) in our region," he said.

"I want to make sure that we can continue to have very close ties with PNG and other countries and there are different ways that we can do that. We'll seek information about whether this is the most appropriate way from the government, and we'll make an announcement in due course."

That's why you should vote based on which party offers the most sensible policies. Voting for the one party over and over is why the US is in such chaos. I was raised in a conservative right wing family and voted that way until my mid 20s. I saw things then that disturbed me about the policies of the Libs who had been in power for around 20 years. I changed my vote. I later felt that the Labor party was not addressing the issues in the 90s, that I felt were of importance to our nation, so I looked at what the Greens offered and voted Green. I am now disappointed in what the Greens are doing recently and will again review my vote. That is operating on policy, not mindless party lines. Its about policy not party. But I wont be like 30% of the US population who dont vote and then complain. All I suggest is ignore media propaganda and research the issues.

Now Woodsie, I know I can be a a pain the a at times. Its in my nature. Perhaps its because having been in the work I had, researching is a fundamental. But hey, doesn't mean I'm right, though I operate on what seems the most probable, not what is absolute. Always leave the door open for the possibility that I'm wrong.

However in politics, I recognise I'm just one person and what I vote on wont make any difference. But I support the mandatory voting system because not matter that one vote has no impact, we all need to take some responsibility for what is decided. I therefore look carefully at the policies and more importantly, the action. Unfortunately, most people seem tied to one party, no matter what, and will vote accordingly. I'm not prepared to do that. I look at the US and I ask the question, how could a voting population choose, a criminal, a misogynist, a failed businessman, someone who contributed to the increased death toll during the pandemic, who seriously increased their deficit, who introduced tariffs not to protect existing industries, but end up costing the consumer even more. And these are ordinary people, Woodsie, just like you and me making that decision. Why? Socio-political naivety and listening to the media rhetoric rather than look at the action?

In answer to your question though, no I didn't expect the Greens to win. But if I do nothing its even worse. Besides if the Greens are so bad (both major parties and the media crucify them) how is it 20 years ago when they started they could barely get 1% of voters. Now its 13%. Are these people stupid? Are they less intelligent than you or me? Yes some of their policies are a little weird. But gosh the behaviour of the Morrison government with robo-debt, confrontation with China that cost us billions, slowness in getting vaccines for Covid(thank goodness for the state premiers, both parries, who took responsibility). Then there's the Labor secretly pushing through fossil fuel mining, especially fracking which alone is affecting underground water systems. Both parties support privatization of utilities which end up costing us more. Glass houses Woodsie.

My news comes from Reuters, not News Ltd or CBS. Yes I listen to ABC given International media assessors give it a thumbs up. But researching deeper is always preferable. So what say you Woodsie. In my usual convoluted and expansive manner, all I was trying to suggest is understand we are all conditioned to believe or accept perspectives, just as those on this site are rabidly Manly supporters. Its an emotional response, not a logical one. And as Goebbels demonstrated and we're seeing it in practice in the US and Russia, tell a big enough lie often enough and it becomes the truth But its not just lies, its points of view in general. As an old union rep and one time boss in government I know how easy it is to demonize other perspectives. Great example was the was when News Ltd demonized Clover Moore, trying to push her out of her Lord Mayor position for certain vested interests. Yet the people who counted and had experienced her actions voted her in time and again Same demonizing applies to Parramatta Eels, Greens, Unions, Muslims, Jews, sex changers, vegans what ever. There are always people just as smart who hold an opposite opinion, so researching to balance is imperative. Sermon finished.

Probably also depends on whatever individual arrangements that joint venture may have in terms of financial commitments or obligations .
Just like the previous Manly - Norths situation where apparently the Norths entity were unable to meet their financial obligations towards the latter stages of the merger .
Could be other factors as well with power plays or personalities or whatever but pretty much accepted now that the West 's grouping has to provide most of the financial support to keep the merger viable
Then the composition of the junior set ups and player bases .
Probably also, still a relatively strong grassroots Tiger support base and one would think that a very experienced operator in C E O Shane Richardson should somehow get the joint running reasonably well but maybe some very strong undercurrents making that task quite difficult

Ironically, because unemployment has fallen, due to Labor's spending policies, the Reserve Bank won't reduce Interest Rates.

Unfortunately we both know there are political implications to this decision. Great if it benefit PNG and a team from that neighbour was always under consideration. However its choice ahead of the much better financially backed and stable Perth, I strongly suspect was a political decision, partly to benefit PNG (which is a positive intent even if fraught with serious problems) but to keep China out as much as possible so we don't have them on our door step. This is despite the crazy then liberal government of Northern Territory that granted a 99 year lease to a Chinese based corporation, Landbridge, giving control of a commercial port in Darwin Harbour. Successive federal governments have turned a blind eye on the agreement. Ah governments. Don't you just luv 'em

Realise that , and comments about the political nature of the decision are absolutely relevant , but if you look at the comment I was replying to it was just an advertisement for the Albanese Government and slamming the opposition.
