Comin' to America...!

But imagine the artists impressions for a Brookie upgrade we could get if we opened it to the US market.
In that case, just dust off Joe Kelly’s 2015 stadium wet dream:

We (The Sea Eagles) got pretty close to hosting a game in China with the Raiders a few years ago.

David Perry and Greg Butterworth were driving the deal at the time and most of the planets were aligned (clubs, NRL, FOX, major sponsor (Huawei) etc etc) but the deal fell over as there wasn’t enough up front “cash in the tin” and no one willing to underwrite any cash shortfall on what the club wanted/needed committed financially to make it worth the extended trip.

Interesting to read that a game in the US may be underwritten this time by gambling dollars (especially in light of the media release by the NRL last month on clubs moving away from that industry…)

For those interested, There’s quite a few well-recognised and specialised sports tour people in Aus that could cover a trip to the US (From memory Gulliver’s (or may have been All Sports?) were the other mob to the Ambassador (Mark’s company) trip that took people (including me) to the UK in 2012)

Will be interesting to see how it pans out but I’d be confident there will be options available for those who would wish to go over for the game should it become a "thing".

I shall be there, with maroon and white bells (hoops) on.

Looks like I'll get to hang with @Peter C (who will be on his best behaviour with his wife keeping him in line!)
You're welcome to hang around anyday GE, just a shame my mate from the last tour, Uwe Behrens is no longer with us he would've been a certain starter also

That's sad regarding Uwe, sorry to hear that.

Uwe “King Of Lawns” was a lovely guy and left us way too soon…

I remember being introduced to him at a trial game at Redfern Oval around 2008/2009 ish by Aaron Markie who was membership manager at the time and Uwe was welcomed and loved by the MWTS immediately.

A favourite memory of him was when we were all gathering at Bambini’s Bar in the International terminal for the UK trip in 2011.

He was fascinated by the array of screens and devices, headphones and gadgets that people were showing that they were bringing to entertain them on the long haul flight and keep in touch whilst overseas.

There were ipads, ipods, notebooks, laptops, wireless noise cancelling headphones and all manner of geeky techo gear on display and it’s fair to say he wasn’t too au fait with most of it.

At one stage he picked up a small, long, thin shiny metal object off the table and after closely examining it at length from different angles asked who the “device” belonged to…

“That’s mine” I replied

“Oh, Ok what does it do?” asked Uwe

I carefully opened it and showed him the contents...

“I keep my glasses in it” I replied… it was my spectacles case.

My how we laughed!

For the rest of the trip he was given all sorts of stick about that…. with reference to blue tooth spectacles, requests for anyone who might have a charger I could borrow for me specs, how best to connect spectacles to wifi in public places etc etc.

All taken by Uwe with great humour…

Sadly missed Uwe Behrens RIP

Why would anyone risk their $ promoting a game of rugby league in the USA atm, when there's every chance it would be a rubbish 'contest' like last Thursday night.

Well if we get the broncos every single fri night no matter what then I guess it's no big deal.

Plus I asked my mates Hugh and Russell and they said they'd do it so I don't have to keep travelling to Aust to watch Manly play live.

win-win-and an extra win I reckon.

Does anyone really want to watch our poor team in the USA?
Haven’t you heard everything is upside down there?

The theory is the worse we are here the better we will be there.

The team has been practising for the last couple of months, and based on the progress they have made they are quietly confident they could be the greatest sporting team ever to play in the USA.

Man life must tough with this sort of attitude
It's just the way things are at the club now mate. Absolutely no character or class from the owner, to the coaches, to the players.

I wish we could have some players to like like Lyon, Matai, Beaver and others.
