Coach Seibold thoughts so far.... so good

Stokesy, I am as ecstatic as any Manly fan at the win, but some of the commentary is we have almost won the comp and are in the finals.
We aren't, and collectively have a lot of work to do to ensure we are in the finals and a chance for the title.

Treat this as a little foreplay, but we need to make sure we don't reach our peak at the wrong time 🫣😛
Look, chances of us making top 4 are slim at best but last nights win tells me we can damage the aspirations of some other teams at worst and maybe play multiple finals if we can sneak into 5th or 6th…

It is a weird old year and the top 4 rule (can’t win from 5-8) may not hold true I reckon… would be absolutely amazing if it was us that snapped the trend…

I choose optimism @XV-1 😁

I said during the course of the week , there will be a few surprises ( and last night was one ).

Sadly there will also be a bit of the usual ( watch us lose to the Dragons )

It is a weird old year but one thing the top 2/3 have that we don’t is “ consistency “.

If we could just get that we’d be doing much better

Wahs are the only side above us we haven't beaten. (And Dogs, but we get a go at them next week.) This should give the boys plenty of confidence heading into the end of season.
Manly were rank outsiders down in Melbourne. To win we needed plenty of spirit and effort, and sound strategy, so the coaching staff get plenty of credit, as well as the players of course, for executing on the night.

I am not putting the win in the wow we won the comp category BUT a win against the Storm at home is really, really rare and deserves to be celebrated.

To put that win in perspective Here is a list of the scores of regular season matches between the Manly Sea Eagles and the Melbourne Storm in Melbourne:
  1. 2006: Storm 30 - Sea Eagles 18
  2. 2007: Storm 32 - Sea Eagles 6
  3. 2008: Storm 34 - Sea Eagles 8
  4. 2009: Storm 40 - Sea Eagles 0
  5. 2010: Storm 24 - Sea Eagles 12
  6. 2011: Sea Eagles 24 - Storm 10 (last win for Manly in Melbourne)
  7. 2012: Storm 30 - Sea Eagles 8
  8. 2013: Storm 32 - Sea Eagles 0
  9. 2014: Storm 28 - Sea Eagles 8
  10. 2015: Storm 24 - Sea Eagles 12
  11. 2016: Storm 26 - Sea Eagles 10
  12. 2017: Storm 34 - Sea Eagles 8
  13. 2018: Storm 30 - Sea Eagles 14
  14. 2019: Storm 18 - Sea Eagles 4
  15. 2020: Storm 40 - Sea Eagles 6
  16. 2022: Storm 28 - Sea Eagles 9
  17. 2023: Storm 24 - Sea Eagles 6
Yep, still along way to go and given the unpredictability of Manly we'll likely lose against a **** team.

Agree let's not carried away but let's just stop and smell the roses for a second.
May want to check those statistics.Manly won at AAMI Park in ‘18 and ‘19

1+. I simply raise the point there's work to do and people jump up and down about it. lol.
Maybe I should announce that we are premiership contenders after every win. That might make the naysayers happy.

Pro Seib camp expectation after every win.

And just on the coaches ... sure Bellamy has an incredible record. As @Mark from Brisbane has detailed, Storm have big advantages in their football dept but the guy can obviously coach...But ...

What a whingeing tantrum thrower the bloke is. Carries on like a pork chop every 5 minutes.

If his team didn't win as many games his behaviour would draw far more criticism and ridicule I reckon.

Do they win because of his tantrums? That's the popular mythology of Bellamy, but personally I doubt that. He's got (and always has had) heaps of quality players.

Anyway, what I would love to see is Bellamy's Storm - as big favourites - fail to win this year's comp!

Some accuracy would be nice.

2015 round 8,April 25 in Melbourne. MANLY 12 - STORM 10.

I am fairly neutral on coaches these days.

To change to pick up anyone other than Bellamy, Cleary, Robbo, Madge, Benet (french for Bennett) would be at best a sideways movement. I don't want Demetriou, Payten or anyone with 'baggage' and I dont want a rookie whose last is not Trbojevic

Change for the sake of change doesn't work. Different story if the coach has fallen out with the playing group, which is a massive issue. Hopefully that is not what is happening at Manly. Falling out with DCE I cant understand and forgive.

I cant wait to see if Tom takes on coaching. His superior talent and intelligence suggest he'd be a great coach and just imagine Jake running the water.

The main issue is having a coach that can bring through juniors to develop them.
Lehi doesn't count because he's an absolute freak who wouldn't need Seibold to develop him. We need a coach akin to Ricky Stuart whos willing to let the juniors have a run.

Yep ... we need a coach that can ensure the fans get a pie heated to acceptable levels ... not just at Brookie, but wherever Manly play ...

Seibs just isn't on top of it ... we need a coach that cares about meat pies temperatures ...

Correct.

And this comes down to the fine line with our illustrious owner in regards to "premiership windows" and KPIs.

It's far easier to bring through the youth when you've got a job for life like Ricky at Canberra.

Less easy when you're constantly looking over your shoulder.

Not sure exactly who, or how many of our juniors have pushed for NRL selection over the past few seasons. I can't immediately think of any

Maybe @Smokin Joe could give a better-informed opinion of any that have put their hands up but have been ignored by Seibold.
