Coach Seibold thoughts so far.... so good

Will be interesting to see Seibold's response to this win over Panthers.
Clearly the pack had a bit more mobility in defence with only one 'old-style' bopper, TKO.
We kept the Panthers to 10, which is the least points we've given up all season so far.
Yet Manly is still currently 11th in points conceded...
Very interesting to see team selections going forward. I like the mobile version of our pack.

Never has there been a more evidence that Jurbo needs to be used differently. Prop and for a short stint.

Speed and mobility in the middle is everything in this game ATM. And Jake's just not that man.

But you’re saying he was forced into those changes due to injuries, so had no choice in the matter.

So again, you’re saying it was only the players on the field who won the game, since Seibold had no choice but to field them.

So Seibold had no actual input into the win?

Well, hopefully he does something outside of dropping down to Brookie for a Maccas run.
DCE certainly believes he does nothing to positively add to Manly’s chances to win a comp.

What’s your source on what DCE thinks?

Also, was our win last night anything to do with Seibold or was it purely down to the players on the field he was forced to pick due to injuries & suspensions?

Can you answer that simple question instead of avoiding it?

Its been evident for some time, it will be very interesting to see what Seibs does when he has every one available, his selection and use of players, Jazz offered more starting at 13, thing with Jake though, he isn’t really a prop either, sure he can tackle and play there, but look at Sio and Bully last night, he can’t do that, then there’s the issue of being a million dollar bench prop for the next 2 years, it’s a hard one, one that Seibs has to face and make a call on.

Likewise with Simpkin, how refreshing to have a DH on the field, everyone bangs on about frogs defence in the middle, actually Frog and Jake’s defence, don’t get me wrong they work hard and aim up in defence, but it’s pretty self evident Simpkins and Jazz bring something more.

Last night Jazz topped the tackle count and ironically I think Simpkin was 2nd, without checking Jazz 35 with 6 or 7 misses, Simpkin 32? with a single miss almost 97% efficiency, (he made 50 tackles last week) I don’t think we lose much in that department, we did however gain plenty, his service and running out of DH was refreshing, even his enthusiasm and post match happiness was inspired, our mobility was way better, our scrambling defence was good, even Navale in his 10 minutes made 14 tackles, no misses, our defensive effort last night no doubt won us the game.

Bully starting was also good, think if we had Paseka he’d better coming off the bench, maybe even with JA he gives us more impact value coming off the bench, but he proved he can start and shouldn’t be out of consideration as a starting prop.

We are still a quality prop short, maybe Lodge comes back and does a job, but I just can’t see Jake’s future up front, you need mobility and you need to be able to bend the line or have some impact, it’s really sad facing the future around Jake, but the fact remains Jakes Million on a quality prop would make a massive difference on its own.

If we go back to Jake at 13 and Froggy at 9 it will be hard to stomach, how Seibs handles our team selections going forward will expose a lot, even Talau needs to be in the side, his carries are invaluable, his chemistry within the side is good, makes me think, did we miss Saab last night?

On Talau his still a centre for mine every day of the week, just lacks pace as a winger, again getting the best out of the side, might come down to moving him in and starting him each week, yes it’s Tolu that moves out, (hard one surrounding Saab) Tolu would get more space and opportunities to run with the ball on the edge, it all comes down to Seibs and what he wants to do, just hope we see some common sense, we looked better last night than we have for quite some time. Seibs has some tough decisions to make, his hand was forced last night, but when it comes down to his choice, I’ll be very disappointed if we go back to the old status quo.

The more nimble forwards and on field coach Turbo, who's presence created gaps in the D.

Sometimes I wonder just how amazing players have to perform to oust the incumbents.

Like coaches always say 'there's competition for spots, etc' but I've seen a few cases where it is "First in...last out."

I know it was only 'coach speak' but when Seibold said definitively in a presser a few weeks ago: "Croker is our hooker" he seemed to be saying - "no matter how awesome Simpkin, or anyone elso plays, I don't even care if Cameron smith in his prime was there....Croker is our hooker."

Like fmd. It'd be nice to not bang that square peg into a round hole eventually.
I reckon even Jake T would like less minutes at prop but he'll be lock against the sharks.

I dunno - it's like we actually had a hooker for once, some mobile forwards, and a good win, but that won't be enough to change the Status Quo.

Like when Des kept picking T-rex as a winger, lol.

Was Brad Parker the last guy to lose his spot?

I'm hungry.

Yeah I can't give Seibold too much credit for the other night.. I think we have all agreed the main difference in our performance (other than Tommy back lol) was Simpkin at 9 and Jazz at 13. If Seibold had everyone to choose from we would've seen Croker and Jake in those spots and I genuinely think that might have been enough to swing the result the other way. Waddell still played over 40 minutes and came up with a couple of costly penalties while Navale only played the one single 10 minute stint and put everything into it.

The real test will come after the bye when we have more players available and he has to actually make some decisions. Saab should definitely but come back in but will he pick Talau on the bench and how will he use him? Can he move Jake to prop and lower his minutes or is he just going to play Jazz at 9 and Simpkin 14 again? Aloiai and Lodge should be ready to go but are they really good enough to force their way back into a winning side? Would Waddell still get picked even with more forwards available? All questions I would like answered, but I'm glad we can enjoy this win and have a week off before finding out.

Well, Spoon got the selections right even if his hand was forced by the injured regulars. Tevaga is a much better 13 than he is a 9. Simpkin is a specialist 9 and should have been playing there consistently since he was dropped last year. Simpkin is a better 9 than Tevaga. Jake is too slow to be playing lock and the extra bit of speed that Tevaga and Navale brought to the team was very noticeable. Many on here have been harping on about a need to bring speed to the middle this for a while. Why has it taken so long is probably the better question.

Also, choosing a hooker and three forwards is a much better move in most games. Choosing a skinny winger to replace a 110kg starting prop is a very bad decision.

If Spoon somehow becomes a Premiership winning coach I will joyfully bathe in my stupidity.

I would say that Seibold is definitely an upgrade over Des despite my initial reservations. Interestingly enough both us and the Titans had games we needed to win on Saturday night and what happened to the Titans used to happen to us even when Tom was playing..

Yep, looks like Seibs is finally starting to take the advice that the well meaning members of the “Cartel” have been giving him, free of charge. No doubt his “Cheerleaders” are feeling pleased with themselves after a turbo inspired win, but as well all know, a win does not a season make. Looking forward to the next instalment of the Cartel vs Cheerleaders battle when we take on the gummy sharks, who look more like wobbegongs at the moment.
