Coach Seibold thoughts so far.... so good

It would be hard to be not satisfied with his results.

I feel this year has a genuine "opportunity" feeling about it.

Can we beat or match the top two sides, probably not without luck, no injuries to our guns. Our 6 & 9 need to go up a cog up and defence across the park must improve.

We could be top 4 material in 2025. But I'd like to fly under the radar and aim to make the 8.

I’m not for one minute suggesting we are about to go a four-time premiership winning dynasty, but if we look at Penrith’s 2019 season (by comparison with 2020) as anecdotal evidence, we can see that it’s not impossible to suddenly challenge for a premiership with what is essentially the same squad. I remember Dylan Edwards couldn’t catch a cold and Cleary Snr was berated by fans and ready to give the game away.

Sometimes having the same coach and squad together for a sustained period of time can see sudden and dramatic changes in fortune…I’m holding out hope that cohesion is our secret weapon in 25’.

Yes, and someone here in the past actually linked a study that gave some evidence backing this up.
On top of that we'd probably also need Aloia to have his best season, and Navale to hit the ground running in first grade, or a couple of similar positive developments. Of which several certainly look possible.

I'm not getting too far ahead of myself. 12th and 7th (in a 17 horse race), isn't really anything to write home about. That being said, a 5 place improvement in the standings constitutes over 25% of the league. Other amazing stats:

Points scored 2023 - 545
Points scored 2024 - 634
Improvement - 89 points (14% - which is substantial)

Points conceded 2023 - 539
Points conceded 2024 - 521
Improvement - 18 points (3% - which is acceptable in my view - if it continues)

Games won 2023 - 11
Games won 2024 - 13
Improvement - 2 games (may not appear much, but 2 more means close to top 4)

Set completion(s) remained consistent at 78% (both years).

Line Breaks made 2023 - 127 (10th)
Line Breaks made 2024 - 138 (6th)

Metres made 2023 - 38,875 (15th)
Metres made 2024 - 44,103 (6th)

Missed tackles 2023 - 748 (dead motherless last)
Missed tackles 2024 - 883 (6th) - go figure !! Interesting.

These are the main one's. If anyone would like another comparison, please let me know. But what this says to me, statistically in almost every area, we are improving. I'm not sure how to explain away the missed tackles figure, but it's definitely something that could be addressed.

Summary - if Siebold continues to improve, that's definitely a pass. If we now regress though, it would look pretty shabby given he's reshaped our roster to his liking.

This was v interesting on the James Graham podcast with Flanno

Basically about how coaches use the media to shield their players / shift mindsets

Very interesting and well done .
Can only be encouraging with virtually all stats heading in the right direction and hopefully a bit more in the offering or the side capable of delivering it .
Not saying that an improvement in the missed tackle area can mean the difference with making a top 4 spot but could well be the case

Thanks for that, very interesting

The thing, yes " the thing", is there really isn't that much difference between the top 5 or 6 other than little tiny differences, consistency, backing up, the 1% plays, the knowing exactly what you have to do in the scheme of things.

That is what makes Melbourne & Penrith so good.

They have some good players (so do we), they have some superstars (so do we) but its these tiny little things they do and do well (and we don't consistently , we do at times, but not all the time) that is the difference.

So getting us from,

7th to 3rd or 4th isn't a stretch.

Getting us from 7th to 1st or 2nd IS.

So the aim, 3rd or 4th and then ANYTHING can happen
