Can we really win the comp this year - gut feel

Absolutely zero hope of making the 8 if you ask me.

Win the comp suggestion is laughable.

PS I hope someone drags up this post in October just to tell me how wrong I was.

PPS The PS wont be happening.

Yes and no . 2011 feel about this as in we had a new young halves combo that defied the odds and took us to a title with experience sprinkled throughout. The no side is we are a big chance of losing up to 6 players through SOO , So we will need to get off to a flyer from the get go. Mark said 19 top 4 maybe close to the spot . Back in 11 we had killer and skivvy and snake there to ease the burden and came through relatively unscathed . Either way wouldn't surprise me .

No, but we are working on it.

I know you hate the idea of 5 year plans , but we are 3 years into one.

We will be top 4 in 2019, and top 2 in 2020.

Think we will be 5-8 finish this year maybe week 2 finals if we have a good run with injuries.

Just gaining more experience.

Think 2019-2023 is going to be our time to shine.

Can we win is a different question to will we win. Yes we can, but...
Feels a little like 2006 to me, we have just broken back into finals football after a gap, we are a team on the rise but probably a little short of premiership quality right now.
But can we win, you ask? Yes we can (and I have backed us, but only for the modest amount I can afford to lose!)

Exactly like 2006 to me as was last year like 2005.

The addition of a hard Head forward like Thompson is reminiscent of Ben Kennedy in some ways.

I think we will do “ about the same or potentially a little worse” than 2017, so top 8 but perhaps lower than last year.

The crux of our success will be how well either Croker or Hastings fits into the vacant 5/8 role.

And remember my comments from another thread, we may lose some benefits that Green offered but these could easily be tempered by some we gain.

Interesting year ahead I think.

Running my eye over the other teams, I’m not seeing a clear standout. Lots of ageing stars out there.

This could be an interesting year.
Yep Penrith came back to the field basically over night. Definitely no standouts and ill throw the rorters in there as well.

Baz me man I can’t see dce & croker combination working, different if we somehow nab carney. Our 2nd rowers in thompson & siro might nab a few tries this year which will come in handy. But we’re a few years away yet.

YES YES YES YES YES YES
I think we are specials for a top 4 and then it’s anyones from there

The quality of the return for walkz and the normal spread of injuries to us and other teams will be the deciding factor if we take it out

If our guns are fit we win

I think the biggest stumbling blocks we have, will be the same as most other years, and they are:

Will we get the 50/50 calls?

Answer- No

Will we have injury problems?

Answer- Probably

Will we have a decent goal kicker?

Answer- I doubt it.

Will Greenburg get off our case?

Answer- Not a hope in hell

For us, its a bit like starting a sailing race, except we are not allowed to use a rudder.

Cowboys line up is very strong at full strength.

They'll be hard to beat if they keep their full complement.
Their backline's ****.

As for us, absolutely we've got a real chance. Our squad was top 3 until rd 19 when we fell away. Add to that another years experience and much improved depth. Thompson is a vital buy and other young guys coming through will make this season completely different to the last despite many believing we've not really changed since then. As long as Croker provides the goods, or at least plays the role he needs, than we'll continue to build, and our young players will push us to compete heavily.

Top 4 goal, below 6th or 7th and we aren't playing to our potential.

Taupau, T Trbojevic, Jake Trbojevic, Curtis Sironen, Daly Cherry-Evans, Apisai Koroisau, Akuila Uate, Joel Thompson, Dylan Walker, Jorge Taufua, Addin Fonua-Blake... Now they are some quality players, i was planning to list a few although it goes on, and with many young players possibly breaking through this season it is going to be a special side imo

2019/2020 will see us back to manly of old, 2018 will potentially see us to a young manly of old
