Post-Game Discussion Bulldogs v Manly [Round 16, 2021]

For the record guys, tonight The Bulldogs had 9 players unavailable through suspension, COVID, and injury. Tomorrow on all the sports programs you'll hear about that. It will be trotted out by the footy show as the excuse, claiming we were in a better position .

Here's the thing, we have 9 players unavailable (10 including Keith Titmuss). But that won't be mentioned. Proof:

4. Manase Fainu
5. Andrew Davey
6. Josh Schuster
7. Josh Aloiai

So the footy show can rant and dribble as much as they like in their summary, but we were both under the same roster stress !!

I really like seeing the support play so effective. It's brilliant to see a player make a break, look around and there's at least one, usually two players in support.

When the game was in the bag (around the 8 min mark..lol) I liked how they played some expansive 'razzle dazzle'. I remember in regular season games, especially '11 that everything they tried was working, especially dce's kick from dummy half so snake could charge through, regather and scooooore!


And lol @ Tom during the victory song...he snuck to the back of the room so he didn't get wet when the 'guzzle guzzle guzzle' part of the song arrived.

Also... he seems so calm and determined, it's almost captain like. Not sure if anyone has mentioned him as a future captain - maybe 100 times- not sure. But we could do worse.

@Woodsie - you probably know this by now but earlier in the thread you commented that Des left Tom out all game (at least I think it was you) and I've read since that Des wanted to bring him off but Tom said 'nope'.

PS: I smell bacon.... mmmmm

Des will have a headache and a half working out the best 17 if everyone is fit.

DCE had a good game, will be hard for the QLD selectors not to pick him.

Barrett dirty on 5 Bulldogs who breached covid rules & couldn’t play.
But, he’ll be pleased to know the rest of the team practiced Social Distancing today against Manly.

The way he had a go at the Covidiots in his side it sounds exactly like post-Gladstone, complete with throwing players under the bus in a press conference.

3 years later and he's learned nothing.

Watched the replay. Some of the referees decisions were terrible.
The Harper no try where Tom goes blind side, no way that was forward.
10 min mark dogs get a 6 again for a flop!?! 300 worse flops a week not called.
Dogs in front of the kicker all game.
Turbo tackled without the ball- nothing
Many other dubious calls.

Can't see #1, 2, & 8 getting another run when fit, unless we have heaps more injuries, and not sure if Zac will be back this year.

The way the game was refereed yesterday, they knew full well beforehand that it was likely to be a blowout given our form and how many the Dogs were missing. It was done to try and mitigate the damage.

Seriously, with the tries we weren't given that could easily have been the record score going back to 1908. And despite all the rhetoric, that is exactly what they don't want. Not from Manly, not from anyone. Its bad enough we won 66-0. A 90+ to nil score would have been too much ammo for the critics of the way the game is going.

Was happy to hear Des make special mention of Cherrys game in the post match press conference. Well deserved. Especially after the underserved shiit that has been thrown at him this week.

His cut out pass to Saab in the first was a thing of beauty. Just floated out there perfectly and Saab hit it at pace. Dce was outstanding I thought,

Very happy with the way the boys played regardless of the score. Not a dud amongst them though Ben still looks a little underdone (very early days in his career). Love that Turbo wouldn't come off and wanted to be out there with his mates till the final whistle.

The commentators did drone on about the Bulldogs missing players and completely overlooked that we were missing as many, and much better players. What they failed to mention is that its the job of Barrett and his team to be finding and preparing players to move up into the firsts when required. Des and his recruitment, fitness and training teams have done a great job of identifying and preparing players which is why we can rack up huge wins despite having key players out.

I reckon Cherry's foot was in the air over the line, the pass to Morgan was good, Flanagan was never going to stop Turbo and two Bulldogs were put on report without us getting penalties WTF. Cherry was one of our best yesterday if not the best player on the field. Its been a few years since I've said that with a straight face. He should lose a SOO before every big match.
