There was a very good reason Manly left Steve Matai and Brett Stewart off their list of players forwarded to Big League for this year's official media guide.

That's because they are done, dusted, finished, kaput.

The only hold up is how much the two veterans will be paid for the final year of their contracts and how exactly it will be paid.

Plans are underway to honour the two greats at Brookvale Oval - sorry, Lottoland - in the first half of the season.

Seeking medical retirement clearances...

Anyone know what that does for our cap? Or the top 25?

I always thought that if injuries were pre exisiting - the players salaries would be included in the 25.
If that's they case - why apply for a medical retirement clearance? What benefit is there?

Not part of Cap if the NRL doctor signs off on it. It happens quite often, although it's usually not players that Manly Fans care about.

'Pre existing' is only for the Insurers to dodge a payout 😡

Matai and Snake will have to have their contracts, less TPAs, paid out by Manly as the Insurers have reportedly wriggled out of their payout 😕

So the benefit is removing them from the cap... which you would only do if you planned on replacing them?

If not, Manly could just pay them out, as normal, over the year.

I mean there's no need to pay them out and not replace them as you've achieved nothing...

Signings on the way?...

It's all about the future.
Use the vacated Cap to bring in 2 mid year signings when no one else has any money available.

Even if they managed to take the field , neither would last the whole of 2017.
