Match Stats

I was expecting a Ricky blow up post match presser, obviously you get one after nearly every raiders loss but if you’re going to blame your team losing solely because of the refs calls and not your fullback dropping balls, kicking it out on the full, Corey horsbrough clearly not at marker/onside, certain players like strange, savage and weekes, Hudson young etc just not playing to their best tonight. Take some accountability, if you feel like you didn’t get the rub of the green fair enough but that wasn’t the only reason they lost tonight.

Team Victory Song:

We are the Manly boys,
We had a win today,
We are the boys you know of
We showed them how to play,
No matter where we’ll be
Maroon and White you'll see,
Oh aren’t we a wonderful credit
To our locality,
So cheer boys cheer,
We are together,
Every now and then we have a win…..have a win
We will play them all around
At our home or any ground,
If they’ll always play a fair and honest game
So it’s GUZZLE GUZZLE GUZZLE
As we pour it down our muzzle,
And sing out the order loud and clear, 'MORE BEER',
And we will drink all night
Until we are very tired
In the shade of the Manly Leagues Club.

What a surprise. After the deliberate tactics of trying to lay all over us and slow us,down they got penalised for it shock, horror Ricky wasted his time coming to Brookvale because he doesn't know the rules. Well ain't that the truth. YOU CAN'T LAY ALL OVER THE FU*KING PLAYERS YOU TWAT !!!!
Horsearse Horsbrough was the biggest culprit for this, so happy to see him get marched for a blatant offside in a probable try scoring opportunity.

Brave Jake ran straight , showed great leadership. Sad Taniela injury but opportunity to rebalance pack size/mobility with more capacity for scrambling tryline defense. Perhaps Jazz moves to lock and Jake to front row when Lachlan returns. Better to keep interchange as is if possible. Lihi ever improving at fullback- breathtaking skills, less risky for Tom and team for Tom to play roving commission centre, he’s been sensational playing there as a rep player. Saabs had a mistake free game catchwise and DCE outstanding- got to keep him if he wishes to stay on. Great victory but still Defence requires consistency.

Woohoo!!!!!!

Just finished watching.

My prediction of 13+ never in doubt!!!

Oh you lilly livered lamp lickers that though we'd get battered by their big boys.

go Manly, Go Manly, it's yer birthday....

May have been mentioned elsewhere but not only were the arm bands for the little champion Beau, but also (tv said) that The Penn matriarch passed away during the week. IE: Rick's mum (Scotts g'ma-obv) so condolences to the Penn family as well as Beau's.

The first 20 mins I was enjoying the possession but not so much not having scored a point.

It looked like the team decided that as the Trbojevics were close to the little champion Beau, that one of them should be the first to score.
Unfortunately it started to look like throwing mushy peas at the great wall of china and expecting it to fall over.

Then I was wondering why the hell doesn't dce kick to saab on the 5th whilst near the tryline.
Jamie Lyons scored quite a few like that and Saab is like 2 metres tall and super quick - he should get 3 tries every week like that.

So I was grumbling about mr 'gimme 2 more years' but then some ginger got sent from the raiders ......and the points started flowing
Hey now, you're and all star....get your game on, get paid....

and all was well.

Sips was ok but not as dominant as I would have hoped. I like the work Patolo did. Hits hard and made some good runs. Navale ok as well. Good speed and ball work. Not sure about the step up. I think he's worth a go when we're down on troops during Origin if he keeps coming aling. I thouhgt Pua'avase did some good things as well. Work in progress but potential. But Sips looks most likely to return. I reckon.
Did Sykes play?

Thought we took the usual game plan out there yesterday. give it to Tom and at min 25 someone said Toms not playing

A couple of bombs and dummy half dive overs showed we had really good discipline, kept the errors down, but despite all the ball couldn't really muster a movement to crack em . No desire to play direct which is not new

Good win but did nothing to put the flat track bully tag to rest. Dce as busy as ive seen him

The cows, then us , then the raiders, just momentumed out of the game

I know Garrick has some questionable positioning defensive issues but is there a centre in the game to compare who knows where the try line is. Take away Saab at 0.73 and Turbo with a 0.69 try scoring effort per game at Manly, next down the list is Garrick at 0.59 (Koula is 0.34). He's already number 3 for points scorers for the club after Eadie and Jamie Lyon and I can see him possibly eclipsing Lyon before the end of the season. Very under rated member of the side.

They did look a bit lost for options early but to their credit, the Raiders defence was solid early. I did yell out a few times for someone to straighten, that's for sure. I thought Burbo did a good job of doing that most times. And Aloaia also.
It was good fun out there and obviously happy with the win but with 70/30 possession (whether deserved or not - which I think most of it was) if we hadn't put a score on, it would have been a very bad sign.
The same warning signs were still there for us. Starling going through the middle of the ruck a couple of times when the big boys got a bit tired after we had all the possession early, was not good.
We need to put Parra away next week and Melb without a couple of their players, or that flat track bully call will get loud again.

Can believe he moaned about the 6 agains. Raiders are lucky it wasn’t upwards of twenty with their plan of slowing the ruck becoming ridiculous throughout the game. I like Ricky but geez he really had no right to carry on like he did about the loss. I’m glad Siebs decided not to bite back & let it be.
I disagree. How can a team get canned one match for six-agains and be deemed to be perfect the next? Manly is the perfect example: games 1 and 3 at Brookie we were angels, yet in round 2 away from home we copped it 11-2.
I can only come up with one explanation: referee bias to the home team.

Great win, huge games from Olakau’atu & Garrick & that was Aloiai’s best game for us IMO. TKO is definitely one of our best options for starting prop as he runs hard & direct & has a quick play the ball to help us build momentum.

Was frustrated that we kept trying to go wide with pretty backline movements in the first 20 minutes when we should have been punching up the middle to soften Canberra’s defence but with Horsborough getting sent off we were able to wear them out.

Not being negative, but that win well and truly flattered us. Don't get me wrong, it was a good win, however if we had been on the other side of that refereeing performance, this site would have had a meltdown of epic proportions. That happens though. I'm not a big subscriber to the conspiracy theories that refs had / love this or that team. Every supporter of every club will say they get a rough deal from the refs. It generally evens itself out over a season IMO.

Two areas that did concern me were the lack of attacking creativity and spark in the red zone, and , at times, the ruck defence.

The first 20 min especially, we just crabbed wide only for someone to run out of room, do a few stutter steps, then concede the tackle. This is where we truly missed Turbo. He is the one who straightens out attack and creates room outside. Hoppa just doesn't have the same physical presence.

Thankfully, the amount of ball we had and defence they had to do saw us with the game pretty much in the bag by halftime, because once they did get some ball and got some momentum, Starling and Pattie were carving us up through middle far too easily. Talk is Canberra can't keep both so I'd be on the phone to both managers seeing what interest there is as we lack the same spark out of dummy half.

The positive is, and it's a huge one, that despite some areas of concern, we still not only won, but blew them off the park. Also, the attack and ruck defence is very much fixable. That ability to flick a switch and destroy a side is something not many other teams have.

I can't help feeling that the NRL has encouraging the refs to give the home 'sausage eaters' what they want. It's the best way to ensure booming home crowds. It explains why results are fluctuating more this season than what they should be.

Home ground advantage has always been a thing. But if you think the NRL has now 'encouraged' refs to favour the home side you might want to check your 5G (!)
I'm no fan of the 6 again, I wrote recently that it should be tweaked.

But I don't agree that home advantage was the main point to come out of those games. Also don't agree the score flattered us.

Manly didn't drop the ball. We didn't creep off-side or hold down the tackled player. It was extremely disciplined play, especially by Manly standards.

We usually get ahead with a few long distance tries but then let the opposition back with some loose play to give up possession or field position.

I too was frustrated with the attack in the opening 20 min but then I remembered we win about 30% of games without Turbo.

I don't buy into Ricky's whingeing, that was all for the purpose of pressuring whichever ref gets their next game. Manly suffocated the Raiders which was a good plan very well executed, because they certainly are a dangerous side, coming off a big win over Broncos.
