I see on twitter that BWSE have signed Sam Smith from the Panthers for the remainder of the season. Listed as a centre on Penrith website - @Smokin Joe any info on him ?

198cm and 103kg,a real beanpole...From Gladstone and CQ Capras, about 21 years old. Can't see him at that height and size being an NRL centre, maybe more a winger, feel he would struggle at the top level with agility and change of direction in defence.Could be a Campbell Graham/Corey Oates/Daniel Tupou type of player but is probably quicker.Don't know if he is on Des' radar or is purely a Hales signing for Workers....but seeing as he went straight into CC is probably impressing someone.

Spud said he is looking to transition in to the backrow in the next year or so

Blacktown 16 Wentworthville 22
The Wentworthville Magpies have secured a hard-fought 22-16 victory over the Blacktown Workers Sea Eagles at Ringrose Park on Saturday.

Bevan French again impressed with a first-half try while Tim Mannah laid a strong platform through the middle-third with powerful carries from start to finish.

Although the pair were crucial to the six-point win, it was the accurate boot of Rhys Davies, who kicked 5/5 conversions, which proved the difference as both sides crossed for three tries respectively.

French opened the scoring in the fourth minute of play before the Workers earned a quick reprieve through Tony Williams just 10 minutes later.

They would maintain a short burst of momentum when Dane Aukafolau crossed for another try in quick-succession before the Magpies drew level through Andrew Davey.

Wentworthville went into half-time with a slender 14-10 advantage but it would be the Blacktown Workers who had a blistering start after the break as Lloyd Perrett crashed over in the 44th minute.

An ensuing conversion from Kane Elgey gave them a two-point lead before a penalty-goal from Davies just 10 minutes later drew the game level once again.

French continued to be the shining light of the Wentworthville backline as he set up the next try with a deft pass for Greg Leleisiuao to help snatch the lead with the full-time siren drawing near.

Although the Sea Eagles looked confident with the ball in hand, the efforts from the Wentworthville forwards proved to be the catalyst in the dying stages and helped secure back-to-back wins.

Blacktown's performances this year are a sign that our depth is too slim to challenge for the title unless we habe a dream run with injuries from here on in.

Our depth is fine. Have you seen the top four teams in the reggies? Our much maligned, predicted to be last team is higher on the ladder than these teams with depth...

We have been lucky that players like Parker and Elliot have been handy. But the guys we have to call on are running last to, as you say, sides who feed in to underwhelming NRL teams.

Our first graders are great, it's our depth that concerns me.

Storm, Roosters, Rabbitohs...

So the premiership favourites? The roosters who went 1 from 5 with their depth and the rabbits pretty similar. Whilst we are right up there with them on the table with arguably similar to worse injury toll.

Our depth kept us in the top 8 while our stars like Walker, Tom, DCE, AFB etc were on the sidelines, alongside them we have had Parker, Taufua, Croker etc all have stints missing multiple games

The fact is the reggies have not had many of our top 30 drop back and play for them .... only Perrett coud be considered as a regular starter .... Croker, Hodko, Funa, Hoppa, Sipley, Paseka, and others have all been on the injured list and have seen very little lower grade time .......

We have been lucky that most of our injuries have been in the backs. We have better cover for them. All of the losses that we have had this season have been when weakened by injuries. We couldn't even beat the Titans at Brookie.

Again, our first graders are great. But the guys we have to call on when the first graders are out, particularly in the forwards, not so much.
