Barrett speaks out

Barrett's poor coaching record does not make him a liar or a man of poor character ..... in this regard I simply suggest that Penn and Zorba have him covered with past form ...
I guess what I'm trying to say is that the poor character of Penn and his Appendage does not, in any way, prove that Barrett is not a liar or a man of poor character.
The only evidence we have is what Barrett has told Rothfield, what his mates have said about him, and the defence of his impressionable young charges.
The three pieces of evidence by which to judge character are:
What a person says about themselves (least reliable)
What others say about them (increasingly split at this stage)
What they do. And here we have someone who:
Has his team in 15th position
Aired dirty laundry in public
Consulted with the GM of a rival team
Broke a contract he extended himself only months earlier
Lied to his team about that resignation
Publicly humiliated a member of his playing group
Presided over a culture that allowed The Gladstone Incident to happen
Makes his children clean a smelly old gym
Played for St George.

I rest my case young Woodsie.

you are correct ... the character of a man that has said nothing publicly for 3 years and resigned privately ... who only went public after the junta spin doctors attacked him .....
Mostly agree with you Woodsie, but you seriously can't see that he might be spinning himself?

Whether you think his list of gripes is soft or trivial or whatever, it is a clear illustration of how far behind the professional game we are, and if that doesn't get fixed up by the owners, we will never rise up to the levels we are accustomed to again

The "it used to work in the past" stuff doesn't cut it for me, in a professional comp we need to be doing everything we can to start on a level playing field
We simply don't have the income to be a professional club like the rest who have rich leagues club to fund losses All clubs except the broncos run in the red Total losses last year were $60m between the clubs

Who will stump up the $4m loss each year to pay for more coaches? The Penns?

Peter Peters launches extraordinary attack on Trent Barrett, reveals who will coach Manly next season

Veteran Manly official Peter Peters has unloaded on Trent Barrett in an astonishing response to the coach’s long list of grievances against the club he will leave next week.
  • The Sporting News league expert used his Sunday morning radio segment on the Big Sports Breakfast to pick apart the litany of alleged problems and complaints Barrett has put forward as reasons for his departure.

    Zorba took aim at Barrett over:

    + Complaints Manly’s training facilities are not up to scratch;

    + His poor coaching record;

    + Team selections and retention and recruitment;

    + His poor relationship with club legend Bob Fulton;

    + His handling of the Willie Peters bullying scandal;

    + His heavy reliance on player manager/consultant Wayne Beavis

    Peters also revealed current assistant John Cartwright is likely to replace Barrett in the top job next year.

    “It’s a poor tradie who blames his tools. Look at the points table, Baz,” Zorba said.

    “(Manly are) one rung from the bottom with almost the same side that finished top four last season.

    “Barrett wanted a chance to coach in the NRL. He knew what he was in for when he went to Manly and after three seasons in charge of the most successful club in the modern era, he really has an ordinary success rate of about 40 per cent

    “That’s with a playing roster that includes three Origin players – the Trbojevic brothers and Daly Cherry-Evans – and two New Zealand Test players.”

    Peters believes the cracks started to appear 12 months ago when assistant coach Willie Peters quit after an altercation with head of physical performance, Dan Ferris, amid accusation of bullying.

    “His problems started 12 months ago when his mate and assistant coach at the time, Willie Peters, was bullied and reacted in that well-publicised brawl.

    “It’s all been downhill since.

    “Why is Marty Taupau starting on bench? Why was Jackson Hastings driven out? Why was Blake Green allowed to leave when there was no replacement signed.

    “The answers to those questions lie at Barrett’s feet.”

    Responding to Barrett’s complaints about sub-standard facilities and resources at Manly’s Narrabeen training base, Peters said: “I’ve worked and watched training at the Sydney Academy of Sport for 15 years – there is absolutely nothing wrong with the training facilities.

    “Manly have made four grand finals in 10 years out of their training headquarters.”

    Peters also denied the relationship between Barrett and the club’s former head of football, Bob Fulton, was still solid.

    “There are some suggestions today that they are not in some sort of dispute – I can say the association is not what it was,” he said.

    “Fulton gave Barrett a chance (but) they’re not as close as they were.

    Zorba saved his final shot for Beavis, who has been working behind the scenes to manoeuvre Barrett out of Manly.

    “I’ve told plenty of coaches and players over the years - you are the boss of your manager. You pay him to do what best for you,” Peters pointed out.

    “You tell him what you want to do. Sometimes that changes.”

    Asked who he thought would be in charge of the Sea Eagles next year, Zorba replied: “I think John Cartwright will be Manly’s coach next season.”

Did someone say junta?

The Greek colonels...with Georgio Georgalas (sound familiar?) as the spokesman?

Personally a fan of Ken Arthurson.
There has always will be problems at EVERY club behind the scenes.
Even though the most successful Manly dominant times.
Arvo had the approach that it stayed in these walls....not to be deceptive....more to do with sticking together and keeping that bond.
Once these things become leaky it shows the outsiders there is weakness and problems that get blown out and effect the club....it’s us against them - not us against us.

Webster just said on Footy Show that the whole Barrett press conference with his manager was just a staged managed attempt to get out of his contract with a payout. A cop out. Finally some sense from the media

P1ss off now Trent PLEASE.

Yep. The tide is turning as the poor Trent angle is getting boring even to the Manly haters. The 39 percent record with a decent roster was the storyline with Webster and co and you can see sentiment turning.Those stats are just damning whatever spin you put on it.Freddy also said on the Footy show that they only ever play for 20 minutes which is hardly the sign of a team playing for their coach. The players are feeling sorry for a mate... they are not respecting him as a coach by playing for him.

Not sure what other people think but the general thoughts among my non manly manly footy mates is that he’s a sook and couldn’t coach a choko vine over a ****house wall.His support is falling quickly everywhere.

I hope he starts to realise what damage he is doing to his own position as well as the club because I’m one of the few who don’t think he’s going to Penrith. I honestly think no one will employ him as a head coach and an assistant role is his only option.

What a load of sh!t! Zorb reckons the cracks appeared 12 months ago - then what did the club do about it if they noticed it? What did the club do about the bullying accusations? Barrett wanted a chance to coach in the nrl, but his performance is crap - yet the club agreed to extend his contract? Cartwright to coach next year?? Sounds like we want a puppet that knows how to keep his trap shut...for a couple of years at least.

Does he expect us to believe that Trent ran this place with an iron fist and last say on everything? Come off it Zorb....

These are the sort of articles Zorba the repugnant dinosaur does though to justify his existence around the club. He will puff out his guts and get a pat on the back by the very same arse clowns that have let the club become a shambles. The place is a deadset joke of an outfit and it starts at the top. To try and pin all the clubs failings on the coach borders on lunacy!

If the club doesn't take a good hard look at itself, admit there are problems that need urgent attention..then we may find ourselves in a very dark place, very soon.

Trent has done us a huge favour and some of us are too silly to see it....and the head honchos appear too arrogantly opinionated to act on it.

Feckin' WAKE UP Manly....before it's too late. Trent's departure does nothing to solve the problems we have. Do something constructive instead of this tit for tat sh!t.

I love this club. I don't want to see us become, at best...a laughing stock, or at worst...extinct.

The Penn's need to sell the club to someone who wants to spend the money to make it a success.
They are clearly only insuredint in trying to make a profit and sadly 90% of NRL clubs don't.
I fear for the future of the club and suspect unless something drastic happens we won't be around in 5 years time.
They are quoted as saying they believe the club to be worth $20million.
That was a joke right?
No one in their right mind would pay $20million for a club with no leagues club to support junior development, demountables for office space and trying to fix a club that needs a serious overhaul.

People should maybe take note...

Manly need serious work done to fix the current situation.

While people blame 100% the coach I think people need to look at the whole picture.

Yes while Des was successful at the club with the same demountables and players changing out of their car, he had the right people around him! Manly must be the only club in the NRL that hasn’t upgraded anything in a long time. The owner of a club says what goes. And why won’t they fix the problem? Instead they palm it off to everyone else as if it’s someone else’s problem.

All I read online is “A tradesmen never blames their tools” if he has the right tools he would do a good job and using crap tools the place would fall apart quickly! So a tradesmen does need good tools to get the job done properly.

Manly are suffering, the fans are suffering, the players are suffering and something needs to be done soon instead of playing a blame game.

While Barrett wasn’t the best option for Manly he has many points in what he says. And sometimes the truth hurts.
Manly are behind all clubs in the NRL when it comes to facilities for training, junior developments and the future of the club. A lot would stem from the fact anyone who buys into the club needs to fund it purely because they have no leagues club to fall onto.

All I can say is it’s a shame!
