Aloiai Gone

It's so hard to recommend signings these days. Forwards have such short shelf lives as enforcers Some quick examples include Klemmer, Tapau, even Taumalolo who have gone from being absolute enforcers for a few early years to just mailing it in. That's why I have been so surprised by TKO who has rolled his sleeves up and done his job every single week. He is a lock for our player of the year for sure.

Manly has been the garbage pail for NRL players for a decade now. Players come to Manly when they either have nowhere else to go, or use Manly to get top dollar and take it. The efforts by so many of the players we have brought in has been pathetic. We need to flip the script and go young and build a team from the ground up. I don't mind a few lean years if it gets us enforcers in their prime. Signing band-aid players for big money to appease impatience means we have a bleak future ahead.

The Aloiai position is not complicated. If he is medically retired he can never play in the NRL again simple. It has been approved for many players including Dale Finucane (Sharks), Christian Welch (Melbourne), Justin Olam (Tigers), matt Gillett (Broncos), Sam Burgess (Souths) and so on. Once a player is medically unable to meet his contractual requirements due to career ending injury, regardless of whether it was a pre existing injury, and can never play in the NRL again its a no brainer. The nonsense that we have been spoon fed in the past and the poor decisions made previously by the NRL in respect of Matai and Stewart need to be a thing of the past. The NRL have a special talent for over complicating matters and doing nothing about other problems such as players being financially rewarded with coaching positions after they retire as an incentive to sign. How thats not a breach of the arms length third party rule I'll never know.

David Klemmer will be at manly in 2026
