In the normal world, 20 and 21 would get released to play NSW cup, and 18 and 19 would get to hang out with the team for game day wouldn't they ? Maybe Des is getting Hoppa used to the game day experience ? Anyone who know better than me how things work can comment on this ?

About every debut I remember Des has put them in the official team list an hour out. Swear he has always ‘protected’ them or had the team second guessing to ease the young guy in although he would be knowing he is starting all week. Its great Des does it, hope he does tonight.

Got a really good feeling he will play tonight.

After Dragons, Sharks and now Penrith I think even Des sees new blood is needed to keep this season alive and actually prove an attacking threat to teams.

Miski is only on development contract and Hoppa is in top 30 squad. Not sure on rules for this season because of COVID but in general you would be obligated to play a top 30 squad member over a development contract player unless you get clearance. So I wouldn't read too much into Miski getting cut. Anyway seems to be soem around that are confident with their mail that Hoppa will play - we'll see in about 6 hours or so I presume

Development players are available to be picked after June 30 . The clearance to cover for injured playlers is only applicable before June 30 . This is a new rule this year and would have applied regardless of COVID.

Understand that - it was more I didn't know what the revised cut off date was for finalisation of squads etc - given that there are still players swapping teams and we are in August - so June 30 not applicable it seems. I presume they have just made it a free for all with little restrictions given the unusual circumstances of this season

Remember when players ran out in number 47 etc, and replacement players had to have played a full game in under 23s or reserves to be eligible to come on.

Yep, you could usually tell who was being kept for 1st grade by a missing number in the sequence or an early shower in ressies or 23's.

C&C, I think the cut-off was 3 August given Blake Green's move was made just in time.

hoppa is an out and out full back, Elliot is doing his best but pretty average.

Big ask if Hoppa plays tonight in the wet, but at least he will inject himself in the backline more than Elliot and will be more dangerous. Its all the defensive work which will test him. Lucky Green is out, green plays a good kicking game in the wet. Hopefully Cust and DCE can have Manly playing down Warriors end for most of the match

I'm pretty sure the "after june 30" prerequisite was waived for this year and devel contract guys have been allowed to play since the covid resumption.
