The No-Look News (Schuster Chronicles)

The initial contract was fine. It was the upgraded contract that was a joke.

Whoever the player manager was deserves double commission.
I wonder if player managers are too concerned about their own self interest when it comes to $$$. Especially for younger players. When the number is big, it can and has killed many a career.

The concept of owing a fiduciary duty to a client, especially in the case of a younger player, their best interests, it should never be viewed through a purely financial lense.

The bigger that number, the greater the pressure to perform, the less patience and time a club can give to find form, the less attractive that player is for other clubs to take that player on.

Shoes contract was a big number. But where is that great young talent right now.

I think having the Shoe around our juniors that are coming through would be a perfect fit for him. Put him into a coaching role, attack wise, the kids would be awestruck.
He can teach our juniors about hard training, discipline, mental fortitude, teamwork, off-the-ball effort, and doing all the 1%ers - all the things he is known for.

(Sorry, couldn't help myself. I genuinely wish him well)

Obviously I've hit a nerve with the Shoe, thought it might have been a good idea. Maybe further down the track could be a possibility perhaps.
You can never say never; Foran probably never thought he’d be mentoring others in a coaching role when he hit rock bottom. I guess I don’t really like Schu though. I think he was arrogant about his talent and played for himself.

Common theme around these parts, for the last decade at least.

Needs to step away from the game for a year. He's young enough. Maybe a little park football. Take time out and work out if he has the desire to put in the commitment for full time week after week football. He has the talent but seems to lack the resolve. He's got to want it hard enough. Many very talented people don't make it in their chosen field because they lack the drive. Self belief, drive and commitment. Talent alone gets you nowhere. And its a long way back to the top.

Someone else in the group as already closed the book. But can the NRL or whoever closes books, make this official?

Some things were never meant to be.

Joshua 1:9: Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.

I thought he was one of the most talented players I’ve ever seen.

He should have stuck to being a backrower and he could have been anything.

In 2021 he was on the verge of origin at one point and he had only played 10 first grade games. His defence was awesome as well in the early part of that year.

If he had have kicked on and turbo hadn’t go let injured so much we may have won a comp. He was that good

Absolute travesty for us and him.

I think Tartak should have a lot of blame placed upon him. He set unrealistic expectations on Schuster and that ruined his career, and undoubtedly played into his mental health problems.

Tartak may have gotten him $200k per year for nothing until 2027... But his overzealous deals and hype prior to then, may have prevented Josh from ultimately earning millions.

I hope Schuster is doing well mentally.
